I'm going to change the oil in my 184 TDi, I've not had a look under the bonnet yet but had heard the filter is in a different location to my CR 170 Mk2. I've had a look on YouTube but can't find anything for this motor in any VAG car.

Has anyone changed the oil themselves? Where is the filter located? Any problems to look out for before I do it?

I've changed my oil a number of times now

Filter is underneath and behind a couple of cables. One is for the electric water pump and can easily be removed, the other is part of a harness that needs to be un-clipped and secured out of the way to allow good access to the filter. Both very easy jobs to do. The filter has its own drain port but I have never felt the need to use it, I just unscrew it, change it out, clean up and refit.

Does that mean the filter bowl is upside down, from how it was in the Mk2 170?
