Out of interest what is the width in inches of those 19s of yours that you have the 235 and 245 tyres on?

Fitted ECS rear wheel centre plates...finally got rid of that annoying gap at the back of the wheel arch...looks great, so pleased. Also fitted new polybush top mounts and bearings and did the outer cv gaiter whilst the the hub was off.

Nearly finished with the exterior now, just waiting on Kev at Triple R to develop the rear diffuser, and can concentrat on the BT build.

Something annoying has happened after fitting the plates that wasn't apparent until the car had fully warmed up. One of the the rear silencer clamp bolts touches the rear beam so get loud vibrations. Weirdly doesn't touch when car or specifically exhaust is cold, only once all heats up, the exhaust seems to drop about 10mm. Will have to move clamp round a bit:(

exhaust expands when hot so if rubbers are not adjusted to allow for this, the system will raise or lower...

Nice project and a good read, look forward to seeing it progress ;)

Thanks, means a lot that others read and take interest. Going to be quiet for a while on the updates as waiting on funds to get the diff and clutch in readiness to get engine / gearbox out.

Hadn't seen your thread until now Chris. Nice updates. The car seems to be really moving forward, especially in the engine department.

Glad you got the ECS plates; they make the world of difference. Just sorry to read that your exhaust is vibrating against them/the beam. It's not something that I've experienced, but I still have an OEM exhaust and newish exhaust rubbers.

The car looks great :)

Thanks James. It was no drama to resolve which is the main thing. I'm subscribed to your thread now so will keep an eye out for your update/photos :D

Smallish update...ordered the quaife diff and awesome gti clutch, and whilst on the phone to Al managed to twist my own arm and ordered front and rear H&R ARB 25mm :p

However I'm starting to doubt whether the clutch is going to be up for the job as I'm hoping for 400ish bhp / similar torque levels and suspect this may push the clutch to it's limits. It'll be a while though before I consider track day driving and pushing everything so should be ok till then.

How big are your current front brakes? We have the spare set of R32 front brakes (which are 345mm) if they would be any good?

Aren't they off a mkv? They have a different PCD. Mine are 5x100...yours are 5x112 I think, so won't fit on the hub unfortunately.

Yes, they are from a mk5 so you're right they will be 5x112. Hadn't thought about that..

I mentioned a few posts back that I wasn't sold on the colour of my Oz wheels....so after considering various colours I have decided to go with this colour. Ronin225 has similar colour on his and I think it looks pretty good.

Also after checking funds due at the end of the month, I should have enough to get these in either 330mm or 356mm. Need to check 356mm would fit though. They are Ksport with 8 pot calipers. Never really been overly happy with the EBC discs in terms of sustained braking.

Really moving on with things now and I'll be glad when all the internals, new mani, turbo, clutch, diff etc fitted as really want to tidy up the engine bay and sort the paint grumbles.

Ta ta for now

Little update.

Almost all my recent orders have arrived in readyness for the BT conversion, which will happen this month once I've sorted a 2nd car.

I fitted the H&R rear ARB today, it's not adjustable, just bolts on & OMG what an instant noticeable improvement on handling, why didn't I do this sooner!! Still have to fit the front one but will do this when engine & gear box is out.

Just in case people are interested, my new daily driver (family car) will be a 2005 Subaru Forester 2.5 XTE Turbo, I know it's got a face only it's mother would love, but boy it's pretty rapid..240bhp, 240lbs torques:whistle: I've promised myself not to mod it...

So just waiting on some ARP gear ring bolts for the diff, and get all new fluids, oil, coolant, transmission etc. Can't wait to get hands dirty taking her to bits and rebuilding.

Off on a tangent, have made enquiries about getting these made to fit, supposed to be pretty light and seem reasonably priced
