Clicking noise and now engine management light :(

Hi Everyone,

i have recently just bought a Leon 20VT (2001) and it had been running fine for the 6 weeks I have owned it... and upto now bags of fun! , but I had noticed that it had seemed to have developed a "clicking" noise when accelerating, the higher the rpm, the quicker the clicks were...

so I called the last owner and asked about this who told me it never used to do this (i beleive him as im sure i would of noticed it , its quite loud inside the car when the radio is off), so then no more than 5 minutes after the call on the way home from tesco, the yellow engine light came on , luckily i live about 5 mins from tesco and crawled it home after checking the oil and water etc at the side of the road.

Im just wondering if anyone has any experience with this type of problem ? , i could take it to a garage i guess but im scared as to how much this is gonna cost, new house and new car and have been off work sick this week has left me skint

oh and also, the car has been driving fine and starting first time like usual, although im guessing that the light that came on has the potential to be serious and im best not to drive it anywhere?

Scan the car with VAG-COM - put a post in the VAG-COM requests section.

Just bought a cable off ebay for 15quid , coming from manchester (im in liverpool) will hopefully get here tomorrow if its posted today.

i knew i should of bought one of these when i had my old mk3 golf ( previous car which has now been borrowed to my mother ) , ah well , hopefully it'll be something like a loose cable and not cost me a penny lol (i doubt it though lol, its too pretty to be cheap as well!)

if anyone has any idea on the clicking sound i'd love to hear them!.. im thinking it sounds expensive lol

any way off to get the bus :|

just a quick update, got my brother to look at the car as he was back from holiday today, and upon removing the engine cover noticed that 1 of the coil packs had "popped" up , so decided to investigate and checked the plug, well, aparantly he hasnt seen a plug so bad EVER , half of the plug had been destroyed and was completely missing, it had also been cross threaded when putting it in ..... kinda shocked, as it was serviced less than 1000 miles ago by VW as seat in liverpool has closed i think.

upon changing the spark plugs ( all of them ) its now running fine again after a quick 10mile drive, although the engine management light is still on , anyone know how to get rid of that light so i can see if there has been any other damage ?

check for faults clear them and retest it coil be poor (again) coilpacks

after replacing the plugs, the engine management light has turned off by itself after about 3 days, and now all seems well , i also think that im getting better milage from it, either that or my petrol gauge has broken lol, i dont think its moved at all today and ive driven about 10m - 15m ... hopefully its nothing mind, had enough problems with it recently, puddles on the drivers floor , and behind the passenger seat.. actual puddle! behind the passenger seat .... cant beleive so many things have gone wrong in the space of a week!
