Coil Sign

After giving the car a bit of a test run down some national limit country roads today near Wolverhampton - the coil symbol on the dash came on and began to flash - later on after a break it disappeared?

A cause for concern?

its saying "standard suspension sucks...buy coilovers"

Im guessing its more to do with coil packs then coilovers ^^

yours is a diesel yeah, so no coil packs or spark plugs on diesels

is it the diesel preheat/glow plug light like the symbol for a lamp filament ?

sometimes a blown brake light can cause this, maybe one of your brake lights has that give it a thump and it starts working again syndrome
