Cordoba under chassis/engine cover

I posted before regarding an oil leak, which meant taking the under engine cover off. Now my question is, would it be ok if I left it off? I think I heard on this forum that people tend to leave them off. But surely damp water would cause probs? Isnt that why its there in the 1st place? If its fine to leave off then I will as its not in the condition it used to be (cracked, covered in oil etc)

Don't have one on my Cordy, yes more crap can get in, but generally it gets washed off with the rain.

Ripped mine off my old valver as it was worse for wear. Never gave any issues
