i know theres life past 60mph but weve all been there.at the lights on our own thinking "right lets see where 60 comes up!!"if my speedo is sayin 65 is 58 then near enough 70 is 60!!there is no way my car is that slow off the mark.....this is what i cant get my head around!!!

chris, there is a point somewhere in that thread where i went off and did all the physics research behind max speed per gear and layed it out all nice and clearly for all to see.

i did it because people always said "its a fact, accept it", that wasnt good enough so i found out why and now im happy that it is a fact.

(RPM) Speed (MPH)
7000 63.81
6500 59.26
6000 54.70

from the previous post so i thought it would as i gather you are hitting 7k rpm?

speedo's are allowed to over read but not under - the most accurate speedo i have ever known is a lotus elise which i've seen match gps signal speed spot on over a long trip

yeah fl@pper just nudging over 7k when speedo reads 65ish.so you say at 7k rpm im doing 63.81mph????

according to our drag car calculator yer but then the wheels are a lot smaller on the Cupra so it's accuracy is a tad suspect

shouldnt be far out though i'd have thought on paper at least that is

still be 10mph ahead of ya though ;)

*edit* see below for the 'money shot'

there ya go - play with that - should keep ya busy for a while ;)

17 + 27

dont forget it's kmh

whilst your sat there cheering note that not ONLY is the speedo inaccurate but also the rev counter is and you will find you are in real terms your car is

6600rpm @ 59mph

:) now go and do summat useful :)

on hearing this information im nursing a semi!!!!!so all the people saying it cant be done are wrong!!??
so you reckon the speedo aint too far out then after all??btw wheels are the 225/45/17s

:confused:fl@pper after reading that the semi has subsided!!!!!

just in time for bed and a nice sound sleep ;)

seriously though yes if you look all the ratios tyre sizes etc etc up on paper it is possible but as the info used from the mechanical sense is accurate unfortunately the rev counter lets it down as it is not and to perform an exact formula you need exact info - sorry

if you really want to 0-60 in 2nd it so close it could be done with larger tyres but how the hell are you gonna fit em ?

my 16v goes way over 60 easily in 2nd but i doubt mine is accurate either :) as using tyres alone my speedo is 6.7% too slow throw in inaccurate revs / gear ratio and diff / speedo etc its not an exact science to gauge whilst driving needs specialist timing gear

I suggest a group day where we get some top gear style measuring equipment (or a calibrated speed gun) and put this to bed once and for all. Anyone that thinks they can do it, with or without the limiter being raised, should come along.

We've put it to bed 3 or 4 times now, just some folk keep digging it back up again, again and again!
Read the other posts as this has been proven many many times before,

Oh and the "top gear style measuring equipment" - thats been done already, can't remeber who but they were at a PVW or alike shoot and got it done!

i wouldnt ever rely on a speed gun, i once saw a show where a guy got an 80mph reading on one from a brick wall!

Not this drivel again:headhurt:

Your video does show around 64mph, dont think its quite half way between 60-70, so 64mph on speedo at limiter. Agreed Yes?

64mph speedo speed will likely be 59mph TRUE speeed. J@mes actually proved this 59mph with timing equipment! I know when mine shows 60, GPS steady on 56mph.

LC/LCR DOES NOT HAVE A 7000RPM LIMIT!!! It may say 7000rpm on your rev counter but that too is innacurate, more like 6700rpm!

Also.....There is no such thing as an official 0-60mph for the LC or LCR. The official time as quoted by SEAT is in fact 0-100km/h or 0-62mph in British terms!

Official LCR 0-62mph is 6.9secs PROVING they used 3rd gear. I think we can all agree without doubt that there's not a hope in hell of a TRUE 62mph in 2nd!

It isn't just LCR, CTR has to use 3rd also as indeed a lot of 6sp boxxed cars do due to the shorter ratios!

Argue til the cows come home buddy, but you aint going to prove anything unless you go to a similar event that J@mes was in and rattle the 2nd gear limiter and seeing what the speed gun says.

Oh i didn't get your point about 40mph through a speed camera?? Fact is your only doing around 37mph and EVERYONE else is in the same boat. Go through a 70mph speedo at 80mph indicated to give it a try;) It works, no flash. Trust me:whistle:

There is a difference between speedo speed and TRUE speed.

So the moral of the story is to go flat out to the limiter in 1st gear through the 40mph speed cameras and you will be fine? Cant see the mpg being too great but offset that against the tickets and points youre savaing! hahah.
