hi guys come the new year i will have 2-3k 2 spend on my car just wondering wat i cud do with the money as dont want a different car plus wud want all parts and labour doing at a decent/recommended garage so wat wud u do?/recommened
If it was my car and i had that amount of money to throw away i would....
Strip everything i didnt need out of the Car,
Get good tyres theyre first on your list at about £300 for 4 good tyres fitted.
Then Front upper and lower and rear upper strut braces £150ish.
Then an upgraded front and a rear Anti roll bar at £250ish.
Then some good coilovers like KW variant 1's £750ish. Or save a bit and go for a not so expensive make.
Then polybushes which will most probably cost £200 for all of them.
Then getting all of that fitted will most probably spend the majority of the rest of your money, you will need a laser alignment etc too. If your going really extreme you would need it all corner weighting too.
And you will end up with a car worth about £200 more and is still only as fast on the road as the car in front of you.
If you don't intend on tracking your car my list will be completely useless to you and you may as well save your money and just spend your money on a service from a reputable garage in your area.
Right.... arb's looking at £500 odd foor neuspeed one, polyflex bushes you can buy them ready fitted to lower arms from ebay for £80 odd search for Mk2 Golf ones (Ibiza are the same).
Be honest along with the arb's upper front and rear strut brace will be fine. KW I haven't heard the best about them and a KW demo BMW M3 couldn't stay with me through the bends at silverstone lol... Recomend Bilsten all the time. If your budget won't go for £750+ on suspension then go for a fixed drop, corner weight set up on coilovers would be ideal but if it's just for road do it at a later time. Rear spacers 15mm are a must!
You could easily fit the strut braces & spacers yourself!
If you want engine mods can get away with suspension and spacers on that list and then filter, exhaust, decat maybe a manifold if you can find one might be lucky enough to get cam fitted and set up.
http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/section.php?xSec=333&xPage=1 here dave the nuespeed is £175 or £198, for the rear. Kw's were just the first okish brand of coilover i saw on europerformance and knew that would be good enough for an estimate on price.
Yea it does, even the 1.4 as arb's. The rear one is the best to go for if you can't shed out for the both but the rear end will be more lively in the wet then usual
dont blow all that cash mate....it would be silly.
get some good rubber and get some good coilies to sort the handling out....if its your cup of tea then strip the whole thing and get some nice Cobra / Sparco seats...loosing the weight will be a better mod for going quicker than chucking 2k at the 8v lump...
Its a great little engine packed full of pull. Unless your going to charge it and make it a g60 leave it as it is and get the handling and weight sorted.
What he said. I had mk2 2.0 8v and sold it and bought a mk3 Never regretted it one bit. Plus mk3 easier to tune. You can get to 200 bhp pretty easy, alot better then 115bhp
