Cupra 300 reliability

Hello everyone

Im thinking of buying leon cupra 2017 with 92k km. Car is totaly stock and has known history. And i want to know whats your experience with owning a car after 100k km. Any mayor problems or is it fine?

My Leon Cupra 280 2015 has done about 153,690km (95,500 miles). It has full Seat service history. The reliability is not bad at all to be honest with it being a VAG car. I had to have the timing chain replaced earlier this year, a shock absorber, radiator, and a suspension level sensor and brackets. Total came to: £1,692. Warranty company paid for the radiator. The rest was out of my pocket. These kinds of costs may be expected with higher mileage cars. Parts are more expensive on Cupras too by the way. Best to find one that’s been looked after like mine, with full service history, as much history as possible, and less owners if possible.

Timing chains are supposed to be for life, but different manufacturers define ‘life’ as different things. In most cases, it’s 80-120k miles. I’d factor these kinds of repairs in when looking around. Ask if the repairs have already been done. If not, they’ll most likely need doing. Get a trusted mechanic to give the car a once-over before you seal the deal.

Thats quite alot of repairs for 6 months of owning the car.

Also do u know what had to be done before 90k miles or like 60k and above?

I did call the Seat dealership which looked after the car before me. They said the coil leads and 4 coil boot covers done on 4th Oct 2021 and thermostat housing and water pump replaced as cooling system leaking on same date, the radiator needed replacing due to corrosion (which I had done in March 2022), they noted a dash error; Error P - wiring loom issue, the nearside rear shock absorber was leaking (which I had repaired in March 2022). The guy who owned it before me, his warranty had expired, so he didn’t get those few jobs done before selling on to a dealer. Clean MOT though. Passed every time, no advisories. Bar once due to tyres, but that’s minor.
