I ain't telling you thief!
It's that time of the year again, just rolled past 40k miles and the old Cupra is due for a service. She's a 2001 which had 22k miles when I bought her just about 1 year ago to the day.

I've had a 10k service done at Francis Seat Dealer in Leicester (my local) for around £140 but they are quoting a whopping £295 for a 40k service.

I think that is dear, what have other people been paying? Also, would you scrap the dealer history and go to a good VAG independent garage? I was keen to keep the history up but the prices are silly for big services.

I wasn't even very impressed with their service last time. I know I can go to my local VAG specialist who does a great job (Lion Garage in Lufbra, highly recommended) and get a better service at much less.

So, would you stick to service history or go independent? And as a buyer, would that swing your decision?

I did the sparkies and new green panel filter recently, aswell as brake fluid so they've had half their work cut out. I'll be booking her for cambelt and water pump soon, so will have to review prices for that too.

I was in the same position when I bought my Cupra on 44k a few weeks ago. It had full SEAT Service history but after reading people's reviews of local garages I decided to go to an independant VAG Specialist (Dialynx) who did a major 40k service for £220.

I think they were better than a dealer's although I was a bit concerned when I found an odd screw in my boot when I got it back as my rear screenwash pipe had popped off and needed refitting. Tbh I can't see it damaging the "buy-ability" as long as there's a stamp in there and I'd think that anyone who knows anything about cars would prefer a specialist to a stealers.
