hi guys at the min ive got a mk4 tdi FR, im thinking of getting a new boc or cupra, in real world driving what is the fuel consumption like as standard both on motorways and on normal roads, at the mo id say my FR averages about 45-50 mpg,

and also would you rate them, ive heard and read stories of the engines and gearbox's been troublesome,

will let you guys know the outcome tomorrow as im going into seat to discuss prices and what deals they can do for the 1st march,

also how quick are these things and do they sound well, im bored of hearing my tractor tdi tbh even though its nippy the sound isnt the greatest

cheers guys/girls

Welcome to the MK5 section mate ;)

I can't give you a great deal first hand experience advise on the Cupra/Boc but I know a lot of members love theirs. Average MPG figure will be about the same if not BETTER than my 1.4 16v Sport (crazy huh!) if driven sensibly real work you can see a return of 40MPG.

They are pretty nippy with the DSG box, if you get it Revo'd the speed apparently is pretty insane. 5.9 0-60 and 13.9 1/4 mile I believe one of our members did.

A couple of videos of Mardon's and Jas's (Both cars have been Revo'd) :

Against Each Other

The Boc/Cupra owners will be able to help more

cheers mate, well when im on a run for work i usually drive about 60mph on cruise in top gear so whatever figures they produce at that id be happy tbh,

sticking at 60 i would agree with sc16v. driving around 20miles at 50 behind a lorry i had 52mpg. but it can be more accurate as the engine was cold... should of pressed the reset button really to get a more accurate reading... the sound of the car is immense... i get addicted to the sound that i end up having to fill my car up with more petrol... they do drink it when you put your foot down... think it said 7mpg when i did that :) good times!

No issues with mine either and I love it to bits. Revo makes a world of difference and Mardon beat me as he had a lighter car and mine was loaded hehehehehehehehe But in all seriousness, these cars are great and yes, some ppl have had major issues. It just comes down to getting the right one and if it's new you're buying you should hopefully get a decent one that has had all necessary teething problems sorted.

They make hardly any noise on tickover. Sometime if i'm sitting there after a phone call its hard to tell if the engine is on or not.

There are issues with some engine's gear box's. Mine and most others are fine however/

Today in traffic I managed 42mpg, in light traffic 45+ Normal roads 30-45+ all depending on how you drive. The car is thirsty if you boot it and frugal if you nurse it. Its not like a diesel where you can give it some and sill return 40's.

Realistically driving sensibly all the way not even one little bit of fun i can get low 42 on a commute to work in light traffic. If i open it up or start work early and its clear i can also get down to high teens.

I do miss the MK4 TDI a bit tbh, but the MK5 Cupra is a very good car!

Yeah my mk4 cupra tdi was great, could still blast into work and be like "get in, 40mpg still" :D Now if I do that its more of a "uugh just rinsed £10 getting to work". All depends on how much restraint you have.

Obviously you don’t buy a car like this to drive like a granny at all times.

Looking at you getting 45 - 50 mpg seems to me like you give it a bit now and then. driving at 60 all the way i could got 62mpg so realistically you'll be lloking at 37 - 38 on your average run.

I had a Fabia VRs before the cupra and could get 60's without much effort. The cupra TDi would get in the 50's or in the 40's when giving it some.

I dont see the point in driving hard on the commute or in traffic, just dangerous and a waste of money. If i'm going to give it some it'll when its quiet.

I'd also recommend sticking to 60 on the commute. The TSI seems most economical between 50/60mph and you'll get in the mid to high 40's.

If you drive round without think about economy you'll usually get in the mid to high 30's. Still the best in its power class :D

cheers guys, yeah on the commute i drive very steady

A) because i dont want to lose my licence because i need it for work

B) the slower i drive when out means actual less work in the office/workshop :) lol

i usually drive fast when the roads are dead or if im getting held up by silly things like tractors on back roads, i dont drive fast for the sake of it, usually just steady away on cruise,

my meeting with the salesman got cancelled today as seat rang me to say my mk4 is still waiting for a couple of parts so it should be getting picked up tomorrow, so rearranged to see the salesman tomorrow,

just out of interest those of you on finance whats the best deals you got on finance over how many yrs etc etc, and what was your deposit,

im looking at putting mine over 5 yrs so dont know what the apr will be and dont know what deposit i will need to put down but i owe 4.5k on my mk4 (by march this should have come down to about 3.5k) so whatever i can sell mine for and pay the finance off and then how much extra i will need to put down

also does anyone know if they will be offering the 2.0tdi in the fr a dsg g/box at all as its that, that is drawing me to a cupra or boc,

what is the differences between the cupra and the boc, is it just a bodykit

Yeah just a few small aestheetic differences between the cupra/boc so in all fairness it will be which draws you more. Mine is over 5 years with i think about 9% apr with a 3K deposit on 19K with options and I am in at about £340.00 a month.

Not too bad I'm wanting my payments exactly the same as they are now at 208 quid so if I can get an extra 2-3k once mine is sold, and if I put 2-3k down as well it should be a good deposit, see what they say when I pick mine up

When I went to the delers the other day to sort my finance out I was trying to find money for a deposit as I didn't know how much I would be able to put down firs I put down 700 which came out at 369 for a speed blue cupra with xenons and racing brecks then 1500 an it was 365 which seemed a bit pointless

Only financed £4500 over 30 months £178

I did start at 183 but once you have a price screw em a bit more :)

Impressed with fuel consumption on my Cupra. Just been to London down M40, started with 360 mile in tank according to computer, did 280 mile round trip and still 240 miles in the tank. It will probably drop quickly now i'm back to local trips but still seems good to me
