Hi,

All of a sudden my Cupra is idling too high around 1300-1500!?

If I switch the engine off & then on, it idles fine.... for a little while & then idles high again?

I've had no recent work done to the car, other than a getting it serviced a couple of weeks ago?

I haven't got a vcds to check for codes, is there any obvious reason for it to be doing this?

Cheers

Thinking about it..... it started to happen after I had revved the engine pretty hard, whist driving - well into the red (whoops).

Would this cause an issue with the PCV?

Usually when the PVC fails the idle surges up and down constantly.
If yours is idling smooth but just high that doesn't sound like normal PVC symptoms.

It does fluctuate (not constantly tho) & it's always above 1000rpm? I've just read that if you disconnect the PCV while the engine is running & the revs go back to normal then it's the valve? Is this true?

If you disconnect it where it connects to the inlet manifold and put your finger over the manifold blocking the hole and it idles fine then yes the PVC valve is faulty.

So do I disconnect it below the green arrow:

Don't want to do a school boy error!

Thanks for your help!

Yes disconnect it at the green arrow and cover the hole with your finger.
It doesn't matter about covering the pipe.

Doesn't look like the normal pcv problem to be honest.
If there's no fault codes it may benefit from a throttle body alignment.

I might change the pcv & get the revised dv as I need to get some parts from sere anyway!

Looks like I need to get a vcds as well, to check for errors! I'm just hoping it's nothing serious! I only had it serviced 2 weeks ago at Seat & they found nothing wrong with it

Thanks again for your help!

I managed to breath live back into my VCDS & its showing no fault codes!

I did the throttle body alignment & that was no good!

What I also noticed its misfiring at low revs... when I get near 2000rpm = misfire!

Could it be a maf issue? Or if I had a vacum leak somewhere, would this be the symptoms?

i still think it could be your pcv valve
just out of intrest how old are your spark plugs?

it could be a bad plug or coil , you really need to do some 3rd gear logs , check , boost , missfires , and fuel pressure , that should point you in the right direction.

The spark plugs should be a couple weeks old, as it's just had a service.

I've just tried the pcv trick stated earlier & the car did start to run normally. When I unblocked the hole, the engine stalled - should this happen? I'm not 100% sure as the maf / air filter / engine cover wasn't connected to the turbo pipe very securly, as obviously I still had to get under the cover.

Would it be safe to rev the car with my finger blocking the hole, to see if it still misfires?

Now this is weird but in a good way?!

I put everything back together...... & the engine is idling fine - around the 750rpm mark! I've just taken it for a drive & it's like having stage 1 newly on! I must have cleared something when taking off the pcv?? I can't believe how bad the engine was running!

Anyway, it appears to be sorted & if it does return, then it I'll replace pcv valve or should I do anyway as there's been a revision to it?

Happy man again...

If you change the PCV...

You will need to change the REAR pipe aswell located at the back of the engine cover (under the MAF)

I thought you didn't have to change any pipe's with this revision: 06F 129 101 N? Looks like I need to do some more researching or maybe David at Sere will know when I order it!

Is the pipe easy to change (I've put my engine cover back on, so can't see)?

the Rear pipe is a PITA... I was cursing for a good hour before the pipe was done.

The reason why you need it is because of the newer design of the pcv, it requires the rear pipe to have the additional check valve (the older version only has 1 but the new one has 2...)

Plenty of info on the internet about this.

Hope this helps.
