Guys and Girls,

My cupra does not start up very nicely, you have to hold the key for a second or two more than my old fr tdi! I know it probably sounds minimal, but is it normal?!
Also when starting from cold it idles very high at 1200rpm...but drops to 750 once warm!

Can someone enlighten me about my problems,

Cheers, Hon

It is normal for RPMs to rev up in a cold start. Again the normal is for RPMs to drop once the engine starts to warm up.

Use the following rule: When you start up your car turn the ignition switch and wait for the fuel indicator to climb to it's max position (whatever that is) so to give time for pressure to build up and fluids to circulate - then fire it up having the clutch fully pressed. That should give your engine's an easier start. You should follow the same procedure whenever you start up your engine.

Thats interesting advice.
Your saying that you should wait for the fuel needle to climb, are you saying that the position of the needle makes a difference to the fuel in some way? Or are you saying that The time the needle takes to climb is a good indictator of how long you should wait?

You say that fluids should circulate, which ones? None of them should be moving before the engine starts. Even the fuel won't be moving as it doesn't use an electric fuel pump.

Pressing the clutch is interesting, I always start my car this way. But had never considered that it would start slightly easier.

And yes, they start idling at 1200 and then goto 750 when warm.

there is a fuel pump in the tank which supplies the engine driven pump, but it shouldnt take long to prime, well before all the whirring and clicking when the ignition is switched on stops, and before you crank.

mine does idle slightly higher on cold start, but dont think it goes over 1000 rpm, and certainly not 1200.

Ahh, ill give it a try and see how it goes.

Poverty: Im loving the cupra, and its a fair step up from the beeza. However Im not sure how the beeza would fair up with the cupra once moving. The beeza seemed to take off (300lbft and 176bhp) but the cupra is totally different.....still going out "just for a drive"! :D
