Feel free to come to vxr forums and see what reception you get. I'm sure it would be better than the one I’ve received here.

Listen mate, you seem to be taking all this to heart. A lot of the people on this forum probably can't afford an Astra VXR or have better things to spend that amount of cash on.

I could have a brand new one for roughly £11.5k tax free with military discount but I just don't wan't to spend the guts of £12k on a car when I can get one for £6k, spend £2.5k on it (coilovers, turbo back exhaust and remap/induction) and end up with a quicker car that handles just as well an isn't going to lose me thousands of pounds in depreciation.

There's no doubt that an Astra VXR in standard form will p*ss all over a 180 bhp Leon. Cupra R 225 is debateable. However, handling is a no brainer, the Astra will come out on top every time and so it should. Lotus are probably about the best chassis engineers in the business.

On the flipside, have a look at people like Songman's LCR, RobDon's LC and honestly ask yourself how many guys on your forum are going to get anywhere close to them in either handling or performance? I'd bet, very few if any.

I'm a bit puzzled as to what sort of response you thought you'd get. I don't feel the need to go on other manufacturer's forums and sound off about SEATs. I'm happy with what I have, its my third Leon Cupra and they've all been bullet proof reliable and great fun to drive. I'll be a whole lot happier with it next summer when its chucking out 250bhp and 260ish lbs/ft.

The main point of my post mate is that you bought what you did because you like it and we did the same. We're all enthusiasts, you're just enthusiastic about a different brand. Its just a bit of friendly banter and a bit like a swinger party, anybody is welcome regardless of how big their tool is as long as they behave themselves.

I hope you haven't taken offence to any of the aforementioned banter.

warm in here aint it seems strange to compare a current model (vxr) too an out of date model should wait til the new cupra comes out.
I quite like the vxr it was the amount of Burberry and hoodies you need to buy to drive around in that put me off :D

well you can't tar us all with the same brush mate lol ( oh and btw - i'm a women :D ) the majority of us wouldn't wear burberry even if you paid us

It is all just banter, people shouldn't take it to heart or get so worked up - go on any forum and enter into a Vs debate and brand support will always be strong no matter what you drive, every car has strengths and weaknesses.

For what it's worth I was heavily into Vauxhall's for many years, owning sporting versions of the Cavalier, Corsa, Astra and Vectra. I sold my nearly new Vectra GSi and bought a Leon Cupra after test driving a few different cars because for me it was exactly what I was after, I got bored of the Vectra within 6 months. I've had my Leon for 3 years now, speaks volumes.

All the new VXR, ST and Cupras are all producing around 300bhp with an exhaust and a remap which is very impressive indeed but they all put it down very differently, which one you prefer is entirely up to you. Regardless of looks, paper figures, etc. it's what appeals to the individual, if you like it and it makes you smile when you drive it ... that's all that matters.

Having driven sporty cars for 20 years I will say that I didn't like the VXR when I tried it, but I did like the Focus ST, no comment on the new Leon Cupra until I've driven one! As a car enthusiast I have nothing against cars like the VXR, ST, etc. and enjoy seeing them on the road more than a Scooby any day!

(BTW - I think VXR owners are a different breed from the chavved up Nova/Corsa brigade!)

and yeah i'll come along, i'll bring another VXR owner aswell tho (don't wanna be out numbered lol) :D

more than one VXR owner silly!! :p lol x

Well yeah of course, but there's only one of you here - or is there :-o

As Simon said, if you're passing MK or N'hampton or St Ives for that matter - we've got meets there. Nothing especially Seat related, more chitchat than anything else - and you'd not be the only women there ;)
