It's been a while since I last logged in as BlackpoolCupra, looking at the usernames at the bottom of the forum I recognise a few names from 'back in t'day' but for those who don't know/remember me I used to own a Mk3 Cupra before jumping ship to the VW cousins :D

Anyway enough tripping down memory lane & a prior appology for the lenghty post...

I'm finally growing up a bit and looking at buying a house so the R32 will have to go  however that doesn't mean the end of all my financial fun, I'm looking for a replacement for the Golf and preferably something with a VAG 1.9 TDi engine.

We've got about 3 or 4 Fabia vRS's round our way and I've driven a standard one (130 TDi) and a remapped one pushing roughly 200hp (Dave Taylor's, see Blackpool Awesome GTi Rolling Road day, the Golf's on there too ;)) and I love the way they run and feel, however personal downsides are a lack of onboard computer display and the fact that there are so many knocking about.

Another option of mine was a Golf GT TDi, again a classy looking car and all it really needs is a H&R Cup Kit drop on some 18's and it will more than look the business. Again though, downsides are I'd be pretty upset going from an R32 interior to a basic Golf interior (Wood Look Dash!? COME ON PEOPLE!:headhurt:) so would prefer a complete change & again there are a few already knocking about.

However, round our way there has always been a distinct lack of SEAT's, infact my Mk3 Cupra was only one of two 5 years ago and the same can pretty much be said today. I've got a mate with a Blue Mk3 Cupra and I think I've only ever seen one Mk4 Cupra and that was as ADS when I took the Golf in for Dave to REVO.

So basically I'd like to get your views mainly on the Mk4 Cupra TDi, but also on the other two cars, the Fabia vRS and the Golf GT TDi.

Also regarding the Ibiza,

What will a Remap roughly get me on the 150 Cupra TDi variant? 180/200/210+?
Any specific known issues/problem areas to look for when looking at one?
Can I get an above average one for between £8,000 and £10,000?
Can you get a Ovni Yellow one? :D

Really looked into the petrol Cupra about 6months back when my girlfriend was after one, luckily a bit of Mk3 Cupra knowledge helps out. However she then changed her mind and went for a Mini Cabrio so I didn't really get time to reaserch into the Cupra TDi that much. Thought this would be the best place on the net to ask so here I am...

All help greatly appreciated and thankyou very much in advance for any replies, again appologies for the massive post but I do like to keep people informed :D

In a bit,
Leon.

Hello and welcome back to the fold!

First off the Cupra MK4 has 160PS as standard :D

The FR (like mine) has the PD130 engine like the vRS, end of the day its up to you to want you want/need.

The generally idea on here seems buy a FR (lower insurance) then remap it!

Really depends if your going to get the 'modding' bug or not.

The Cupra has better brakes, suspension, FMIC and looks better in standard guise, but the FR can be tuned as much, cheaper to buy and insure and if you get a new 06 spec, its even closer on looks to the Cupra.

As you stated I wouldnt go for a GT TDi as you'd being going down on spec from a R32, also I have no problems waving bye bye to them even when mine is in standard form, so think the ibiza is slightly ligher? And/Or geared better for the diesel (on the FR)

If you looking at a vRS then your looking at a FR with a skoda badge, 5 doors (no 3 door option) and the old Sport gear ratio's basically.

If buying second hand, I cant imagine there will be much difference in price either.

Only thing thatwould make the vRS in my eyes something to look at is when you see one, you know its a vRS as it is styled to stand out from the basic models, whilst Seat's FR doesnt stand out as much from its basic models as standard on the old 05 spec and before.

Whilst the Cupra stands out (esp in yellow which you can get in the Cupra!)

My 2 pence,

btw the fabia vRS does have a trip computer display in the speedo. if you`re in the market soon and you decide you would like one i will be selling my slightly modded fabia. :)

How dare you! ill ignore the fact youve just said that!

Just to add, the Fabia RS depreciates slower it seems, even though theres more about - i guess its just down to it being more 'known'

I have one and really enjoy driving it, remapped upsolute tuning say 208bhp!!

but wieghing 1200kg they go pretty quick

there a thread here when i had a play with a golf r32 and he was very impressed witht eh cars torque ability,

insurance is a pain but not as much as a r32,

fuel ecomony round 45-55 but never lower than 38 aon mixed run.

handling is good standard and brakes are over done on standard car, just right for remapped.

dift on here has taken his to track with cupra R's etc and it held it's own.

standard 0-60 bout 7.2 seconds remapped under 6.5

quater mile under 14.5 possible i think, after clutch and dif remap.

looks good have alot of good feed back on it

interior will deffo not be as good as r32 but not bad for price

which they are about 10k now second hand burgain really prob the best 1yr old car you can get for 10k-12k imo.

good luck cos they are v rare on road two seen over 20k miles for me :)

You can buy my Fr off me fr 10k if you'd like ;) its standard  honest :D

seems to be the case. mine`s a 2004 54` plate with 14k on the clock and i rekon its still worth £9.5k of anyone`s money! hope so as its going to finance my new ibiza fr petrol!

Tis true, infact it was a little quicker than standard LCR's, when I only had a remap and strut brace.

Ive never regretted buying mine, even though it was a complete impulse buy. I love every drive in it. Plus ive seen about 3 other Mk4 Cupra's in the 2 1/2 years ive had mine.

Cheers People, very informative and honest replies... :)

Definately loving the RARE factor, like I said above, my Mk3 Cupra was the only modified one round our way for about 5years and it looks like it's the same case now with the Mk4, winner! :D

So the engine is actually a PD160 then or a 150 with a better standard remap (like they did with the Mk5 Golf R32, same engine, updated map)?

Possibly asking in the wrong section officially but what components does the PD150/60 have over the 130? Is it like the 20VT variants where you get bigger intercooler and 'quicker' turbo internals?

Yeah the torque that the Fabia's were pushing out even in standard PD130 form was VERY impressive, infact Dave's 200hp one is not far off the Golf at all, mine's been Remapped and the usual breathing mods but a standard R32 vs a Chipped Fabia/Ibiza wouldn't have a sniff in my opinion.

The Mrs had a 1.2 Mk4 for a bit (actually how we met, pair of Ibiza owners) so I'm familiar with the interior of them & I quite like it in 'entry level' trim so without going to look at one I assume it's got the odd bit of Piano Black, Red Stripes or Brushed Aluminium to tart it up a bit? Half Leather again too?

Cheers again for the help people, I'm now pretty sure it's the Cupra TDi for me when the Golf drives off into the sunset  Individual, Tunable, Yellow :D (Sorry, fav colour), Economical & Affordable :)

what mods did the fabia have cos alot "think" they have that much, but rarely do
a remapped cupra would wipe the floor with lightly modded fabia.

130-160 like you said different intercooler and turbo.

150-160 different intercooler and 1.55 boost compared to 150's 1.5

the ibiza cupra is fastest diesel hatchback remapped there is and rare as anything.

Dave's had alot of prototype work done on his from all accounts (username Shifty on Briskoda), celtic tuning did his remap and he's had the full custom blue flame turbo back system with decat, I'm sure there's a few more he's done but can't think off hand. He's currently 2nd on the Awesome GTi Rolling Road Skoda top 5, however the figure is 150'ish whp, not sure what the % drivetrain loss is exactly for fwd TDi's but from all accounts it's around the 200mark and I can believe it.

Bloody quick thing, it's stripped out bar dash and front seats and the Jabbasport anti roll bars keep the HALDEX system in the Golf on it's toes round some of the bends, feels like a great chassis to play with on something like a track day :D

thats about what you should expect from a 130pd 170-185

i saw his graph and was 175bhp but he wasn't happy with result.

he has a new octy vrs now.

someone on here got 170bhp at the wheels in standard ibiza cupra tdi!!!

test drive all three cars and decide. all decent cars imo

Yup, I'll try and get out in a few at the weekend if I get time, got the Blackpool Summer Cruise Weekender type thing on Saturday (all invited, if anyone still does that? :D). I'll have a word with Dave at ADS Preston too about a possible trip out in his REVO'd Cupra TDi, should be a good idea of where I intend to go should I end up with one...
