Hey folks

Has any of you got custom door pockets on your mk2 ibiza's or cordoba's?

I looking to upgrade my speakers with some Alpine S-types but they too deep so the window does'nt go all the way down.
I know there's shallow speakers out there, just thought i'd check if there's such things like audioline door pods available etc

Might fab my own pods if no luck

Cheers, lee

hmm thats funny i recently fitted alpine s-types in my ibiza and it worked perfectly. i bought collars with the speakers but didn't need them as i could slot them straight in! mines a mk2 gti 16v, so 3 doors and electric windows..
if you cant find seat collars i think the vauxhall ones fit.
i seem to have water sitting in the bottom of my doors though! window seals are fine! anyone else experienced this?

Well not exactly mk2 ibiza or cordoba doors, but should give you an idea.

Hmm strange that

Mine are for my caddyvan which share the same doorcards as the fronts on 4dr ibiza's/cordoba's

Have you got a pic of the pocket mate. maybe they thicker on gti cupra etc

just a thought - is it that you can't get the speakers to fit right in/ sit flush?
when i fitted mine there were a couple of little black plastic tabs on the mounting face in the door for the speakers which i had to cut off with a stanley knife before i could get mine in.
Fraid i've got no pics and i just reassembled my door yesterday!
suppose if you cant get the speakers to sit right inside the door you could use collars, then throw away the cage from the door and just use the cages that come with the speakers?

is the 92 caddy truck one of the old caddy gti pickups?? cos if it is i'll swap you my sister for it?

Nah i can get them to sit flush ok, just the window comes down onto the magnet. I may make some rings to space them away so window misses. if i distance it right, i might be able to use original mesh grill so none the wiser will know of the upgrade [B)]

Yep, truck is a mk1 on a k plate. last of them that came to uk. It was a 1.6 diesel til i did the conversion.

Details on said sister please lol :)

Just use cloth Chris, stretch it over what you want to cover which gives you basic contours, add Fibreglass resin .. let it harden ... then add layers of FG to build up - add filler, sand it down and paint / trim it in whatever you want. Think that's the basics :)

ok so like an old t-shirt maybe? or thin stretchy material, and then fibreglass resin on it's own? after hardening then get to the fibreglass matting and resin and sanding?

cheers fester

Something thin that can be stretched over things to make compound curves etc yes. Also something the resin won't destroy once you paint it on.

Whilst it looks simple enough, it will take practice to get shapes and stuff right, as well as all the finishing.

I DO think it's a skill worth having and one I would like to practice myself :)

If the shape is not to hard, you can use a normal t-shirt with a little bit of stretch, but make sure its a plain shirt, and not one with a print or picture on it, the resin does not work well with prints. As for the door pods in the pics, i used a slight stretch fleece fabric, also when using a stretch fabric, make sure its not to thin, or the resin will soak right through the fabric.

Once you learn how to work with fibreglass and resin, its a never ending learning curve, theres so many things you can accomplish.

6x9's? please dont, rather get a set of proper splits.

No you leave the MDF in there for structure support.

ok cheers mate, well the 6x9s are an idea, might just get some components, and put 2 pairs in and amp them?

will have a think on the ice

yours is immense though mate, noice work
