Hi all,

Whilst I had the wheel off the other day I noticed my CV clip was off! Have bought a new one from DMS and acquired some tile cutters from my neighbour as well as some CV Joint grease from Halfords but have 3 questions: -

1. Do I need to flush the joint out to get rid of any grit that will have got in whilst driving with it off. If, from a visual inspection it appears as though there isn't really any in there am I ok to just pack in some more grease and seal it ip?

2. How much grease needs to be in there? It's quite tricky to squeeze in I found whilst trying to do it with a cable tie yesterday but they kept snapping!

3. I need to drive to work tomorrow so will I be ok driving with no CV clip on (I know the grease will seep out but it's only for one day)? If I'm up to it I'll get up early before work tomorrow and have ago but don't really wanna do that before I go to work covered in grease!

Thanks in advance!

I normally use carb cleaner or something if it needs a full clean, wd40 works ok well. depending on how long you have driven it with teh ripped boot you should be fine just to re pack and seal

i normally just pack the joint well and add a bit more for good measure, the boot does not need to be full.

If i was you i would at leat use a big cable tie to seal it on a temporary basis, the stuff will get everywhere.

Thanks for the reply mate. Been driving it I'd guess for about a week with it loose. Don't go on gravelly roads though so I wouldn't have thought that much sh*t would have got in. I'm going to do it tonight when I get home from work. I'll just have to make sure I've got plenty of rags and newspaper.

Thanks again :)

My dad had his come off his car, and he did about 1000 miles before we fitted a replacement and it was fine. Used a bit of brake cleaner to flush everything out, including any dirt. Let it all evaporate and repacked with grease. Very little dirt got in tbh in that time,so you should be fine. Just make sure you remove all the old grease which may have become contaminated.
