Oh Dear Mr Hamster doesnt like the Cupra at all, up against the Civic Type R

"The Seat is not up to the job of providing as much fun as other hot hatches and yet it costs more than many and offers no more practicality, style or comfort to compensate.

Fair enough !

Hmmm...... I had mentioned in another thread that for me the Cupra is a very good deal. This is a car that has been built for going fast and it is equip with parts that would cost an arm and a leg to add on later on other models.

An example is the motor. Where else can you get a motor from VAG that is built to such high specs AND has so much more room to increase BHP. This motor is almost identical to the S3 audi motor with just a remap can give you 310hp on average... Brakes, aluminum parts in the suspension, 6 speed shift, Golf underbody, etc....

If the OEM handling is different then the Golf it is because of different spec's on the dampers/springs which is easily fix...

This car looks good and sharp with two additions to the exterior. JE Designed side skirts and rear roof spoiler. In my opinion the car SHOULD have had these as a standard and it would have been a very low cost to SEAT with the impact of a Cupra truly being a flagship of the LEON series.

Eri post on adding dampers/springs and remap with the above two exterior additions will make this car a CupraR model so SEAT pay attention... :)

Good to see some nice mature responses in this one, you don't like his opinion so you have a dig at his height and how he had a crash that wasnt his fault...

ooh bet you feel all hard now dontcha?

I'm sure that if you bring this thread to his attention he will be only too happy to change his mind and print a retraction!

Hang on... NEWSFLASH! People are entitled to their own opinion and horror of horrors it doesnt have to be the same as yours!

I'd love it if this happens.

Who knows? VW have the GTI then R32 and I read in Auto Express that they are bringing out an R36.. But strangley they are apparently bringing the New Golf out 2 years early because of poor sales and high productions costs (New Leon 2008-09?) Ford have the Focus ST and they are bringing out the Focus RS.. Maybe Seat have something up there sleeves for next year:confused: ...?

Probably going to get slated for speaking my mind but...
I have to say, that the new Cupra does nothing for me really, The dealer where I went to look at it had made the mistake of parking it next to an FR in the same colour! and from the front you could hardly tell the difference.
Suspension seemed to be a bit 'jacked up' 4x4 stylee (maybe not fully settled in yet?)and the overall look of the car didn't come across as a flagship model.
Moving inside, I think the dash design looks like an afterthought, and the only way to remedy the vast expanse of cheap looking plastic would be to fill it with the expensive sat nav unit. Seats were very supportive though, and with the chunky steering wheel were the best parts about it.
I didn't even take them up on an offer of a test drive, although it is probably great out on the road, I just wouldn't be able to put up with looking at that dash all the time!

Hope they bring out an R version soon!!

I went to my local SEAT dealer on Sunday to look at the new Cupra and I have to say I wouldn't buy one :( It certainly doesn't look mean enough. It was sat next to a Reference Sport with the Aero bodykit and 18" BBS alloys which looked soooo much better.

Regardless, I sat in the car and just thought "plastic city" and not good quality plastic either, the nobs and buttons wiggled about loosely in their sockets and had no weight or feel, the whole dash felt tacky and rather like an airfix kit. The lack of leather seats and the very cramped feeling cabin didn't help either.

Absolutely nowhere near as high a quality car as my old LCR was. Got back in my Mondeo afterwards and felt like I was sat in a Bentley the build quality was noticeably that much better.

Hi there,

When I went to get my Cupra it was looking jacked up as well but that was because they had clips in the springs which were removed when I went to pick up my car. She has settled down nicely to a point were I would think twice before lowering it more...

Car NEEDS side skirts and rear spoiler. With my from JE Designed the car has a totally cool look without being gaudy.

I do have the bluetooth option so the interior has more to offer but all in all I have no serious complaints... YET :)

I know what you are saying about the car needing a bodykit and spoiler to make it more agressive, but you shouldn't have to spend a single penny on a brand new £20K car to make it look right!
And the one I looked out had deffo had the transportation spring assisters removed!
In time it may grow on me.

Totally agree. The other equivalent models have got a more up-market feel to the dash (apart from perhaps the megane) and have something that sets them apart for lesser siblings.

While understated is good in a way it still needs to be differeniated from lesser models.

Apart from the Bezza and Altea I have gone off the new Seat ranges...

when first seeing the new Leon I was sure that I would never buy one!

But after trying the ford ST, the Golf GTI and an Astra OPC I was sure that the signature I put on the LC was safe.

GOLF GTI is for sure nicer inside, and it does have a better image, but the power handling is not as good as the LC. I dont care what the press writes, but on wet small B roads it was proven that the LC is faster, and gives more fun to drive. despite the relative cheap plastic and the "strange" design.
(Driven before and after I signed for the LC)

FOCUS ST have the nicest engine! Just the sound gives me a hard on (pardon my french), but it is also heavy in the front, which you feel when driving it. The inside is OK, but just as the Leon it is nothing special. And it is a Ford... = for me out of the question.. (dont ask why, could be a bad expirience from my childhood or something like that...)
(Driven before I signed for the LC)

ASTRA OPC is a very very nice car. Good design, good price, cool options, very nice engine with good tuning options, but the car is not capable of getting the power to the street. I have seen a 300ps tuned OPC being passed by a std Golf V GTI at 0-60 red light trials... And even with a lowered suspension it dosent help.
(Driven before I signed for the LC)

So, in my opinion the leon is not the most beautifull one, but it is different in a nice way. nor the most exclusive, but good working, and not the cheapest, but very good priced when you include the options. AND a very good basis for further modifications!
I'm sure that when SEAT bring out the R-line styling this summer, there will be some kit that will fix the missing design, but for now it is just fine as it is.

I will only add a KW gewinde fahrwerk and 19" BBS, then we see.

that was my 5 cent time...

I look forward to seeing pics of it on the KW's and fitted with the new BBS wheels.
Which variant of KW are you buying?
I personally run the variant 1 coilovers, and rate them very highly.

my dads interior looks nice as it has the expensive sat nav option lol i must admit the interior of more basic cars does look bland. i really don't like the seats as they are too narrow for my legs (rugby player legs) apart from that i love it...the drive is nigh on perfect, great round corners plenty of feedback...i think the people that write these damn articles in magazines are paid to complain about the cars! ok so the cupra may not look special but neither does the golf gti...the edition 30 does and maybe seat should also look at bringing a special edition perhaps. like a cupra r like peeps have said previously...maybe a slight increase in power too hehehe :p
