Hi everyone.

In urgent need for some advise :p

I have a 04 LCR stage 1 remap approx 270bhp. Having major issues with the turbo. firstly i am sorry but i dont have a boost gauge to explain the psi etc.
Basically to start with i thought i just had a boost leak, found a split in a boost pipe so replaced that, still no better. very loud whistling noise more like a whoosh and when reaching around 3k rpm turbo would splutter.
up until last week that was the case but had some issues with the crankshaft sensor, had that replaced (separate issue) but now the whistling (whooshing) noise has stopped but getting no boost now but can hear the turbo spooling. no white smoke etc

Have ordered a n75 valve to eliminate that, also considering replacing the actuator but my question is... is it worth it? or is it just best off replacing the turbo as the car has covered 130k miles? if so without taking my turbo off to check the part number, will it be the K03s or k03 in the cupra r?

the cupra r came with the K04 turbo.

I would plug it into vagcom before doing anything, it should have some codes stored on the ECU that would point you in the right direction
 
I'm not sure it'd make a difference as I'm sure someone with more knowledge could confirm but if it had a split it'd be coming up with the 17705 fault code.

If that's the case and you've fixed the split pipe was the fault code erased?

If not the ECU maybe making adjustments for a fault that's not there?

Good luck with the fix anyway hopefully it's something simple / inexpensive :)
 
a few weeks or so ago i was having issues with the car cutting out on me any way long story short it came down to the crankshaft sensor after plugging into vagcom and getting related codes back.
once iv sorted that no codes have appeared since, so the ecu doesnt seem to be detecting a fault :(

It's a ko4 turbo in your lcr. I'm not sure whats causing it to do that but someone in here will have an idea.
 
Sorry guys I was lying, just been out to her now. I have a cheapish handheld code reader, its just fired back at me 17608 and 17743

I replaced the DV with a forge 007p only a few months ago. thanks ryan thats a real help, so just process of elimination now then. so you wouldnt recommend replacing the actuator after reading them codes?
 
To be honest I'm not seeing anything there that'll be related to the actuator. If the turbo's not smoking or anything then there shouldn't be anything wrong with it so realistically there shouldn't be a need to replace it

If it's not the N75 then it's probably the N249 which is faulty. If the 007p was new or in good condition then that shouldn't be your problem. Do you have the correct spring in the DV for the map ?
 
just looking through that list for the possible causes of the 17743 code. Fuel filter is one, i'm due a service soon so may as well do it now. Any ideas where the fuel filter is on the LCR?
 
The first thing I'd do is the N249 delete and vac line simplification, that will rule out any problems with the n249 as it isn't there any more.
The next step I'd do is pressure test of the induction system to make sure that no un-metered air is getting in or boost is leaking out. I'd also check the actuator is working properly on the turbo.
Should that not show anything up I'd then log what the MAF and temp sensors are doing to see if the problem lies there.

Just a little update... im going to look so blonde now!! iv just been looking under the hood and can see that my n249 has already been bypassed by the previous owner. why am i still getting fault codes for it? forum rules prevents me from uploading a pic to show you :(
 
Is the electrical connector still plugged in to the valve, or is it disconnected?

Have you got an uprated dv? Dv might be opening from increase in boost?
