My wife just pulled into the drive with a Christmas tree dashboard!

Scanning with OBDII seven modules show faults. Mostly 'Data bus error' or similar suggesting impossible signals from the thing in question. Tyre pressure loss indicator, stop-start system, stabilization control, front assist, headlight range, park pilot etc.

Clearly all of these systems have not packed in at the same time but what is the most likely cause? Module death? Bad connection? Nothing new has been plugged in and nothing modified. Cleared all the codes with OBDII and they came back straight away.

Is there anything I can check myself or is it into a garage? Car seems to drive fine although the systems in question don't work. All pretty peripheral except the ABS and stability control which are not working.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I sense a large bill coming my way! ;0)

Thank you.

I have had similar when the speed sensor on the brakes went, cant recall if there was a specific DTC for it

Got new front disks and pads fitted a week ago so that sounds plausible. I'll have a look. Going to replace the battery too. I understand a faulty battery can cause issues and the car is nine years old so I reckon the battery will be due anyway.

I was just about to add I had a load of random codes when my battery was on the way out but seems like you’re ahead on that one!
I'm just back from the dealer. My daughter's car is in today for a fault on it so I thought I'd get a battery while I'm running anyway. They don't have one! First time I've gone to a dealer and they don't have a battery. It was £340 anyway so I'm going to phone round and see if I can get one somewhere else.

I'm inclined to think it's not the battery but the age of the car it's certainly possible so...

I think the one can tell you vantage and gives you the option to code in a battery. I got mine from tayna, had some sort of warranty and there’s always a discount code available.

Hopefully you get to the cause of the issue

Replaced the battery, coded it to the car, didn’t fix it. Loads of fault codes all appeared at the same time including:

Gateway
Towing recognition control
No communication

Adaptive cruise control (which the car doesn’t have)
Data bus implausible message
Function limitation
Data bus error value
Etc

Brakes
Right rear ABS wheel speed
Steering angle sensor

Tyre pressure warning
Tyre pressure monitoring system

Electromechanical parking

Engine
Data bus error value
Invalid data received

The right rear ABS wheel speed sensor is the direction I'd be heading in.
I pulled the back right wheel off to have a look at the ABS sensor. Look at the state of the splash guard! The ring looks perfect, I cleaned it up anyway, but what I think is a possibility is that a bit of that splash guard got stuck in or near the sensor and tripped it up. The whole guards was lose and falling about. It ripped right off with little effort.

Cleared the codes and the lights stayed off during a short run. Not conclusive, see what happens when it’s used more.

What’s annoying is that I put the car into the dealer last year to get the rear disks/pads changed as I couldn’t get the calliper carrier bolts out. They were rusted to bits. Specifically asked them to change the bolts and they didn’t, they took off the hub instead. They must have seen the state of the guard and they just left it. And now I can’t change it because I can’t get the carrier bolts out! :0(

geez that is terrible
The rear disks and pads were replaced by the dealer exactly one year ago. That guard must have been in a bad way then, and they've just left it. They had the brakes off, the guard only costs twenty-odd quid. How hard would it have been to give me a call and offer to replace it? My thought is that they would have to wait for the parts and didn't want to be held up so just left it.

Honestly, they are useless. My daughter's Ateca was in today because she keeps getting a headlight leveling system error, pings most days. Couldn't find anything wrong and still charged £130 for an hours labor. I asked them what they checked, basically nothing. Unless the computer tells them exactly what bit to replace they're stuck.

for me headlight leveling error was broken wire to level sensor behind rear left tire... Visualy was not possible to tell that wire is broken.

That seems to be a known issue. I did try telling the dealer that but they were not interested. Exact words were something like 'We can't check everything some guy on the internet suggests'. If the computer doesn't tell them exactly where the fault it, they're flummoxed.

My experience is 'the guy on the internet' knows a lot more than the dealer does. I remember there was a fault on our first Leon. Was over the forums like a rash, it was a well known problem. When I asked the dealer about it they said they'd never heard of it. Pretty useless.

I also have random faults about headlight leveling, but not exactly indicating about level sensor. Just found by taking multimeter and check wires at both ends for continuity, and found that one wire of 3 are completely disconnected and one have problems already (resistance too high). So changed wires from sensor till the interior coupling point under the rear seat. But to figure this out this was taken some time and headaches :D

Pff that sucks, time for a new dealer 🙈 It would've cost them 1 phone call like: "Hello @Mr Pig,the splash guards are gone, we recommend replacing them, is that ok?"
