As subject states: My cars dealer went bust - I have the SKC (I think) but no workshop code, importer or date. I have bought a replacement ECU and need to pair it to the car.

I have some scans from vcds / vagcom, will the missing info be in there anywhere?

Other than that, are Seat likely to help me?

WSC, importer or date arent needed but VCDS will display this. All you need is the SKC and make a note of soft/long coding where needed.

SKC should be a 4 digit number, or 5 with the leading number being a '0'.

Is yours Immo2 or Immo3? If immo2 you dont even need the SKC

Thanks Dan,

think it's immo 3 has 2 long strings in the extra field.

In the car at the mo, so will try SKC without populating the other fields

cheers

I'm getting disabled in the first box, when I put in my SKC and press test, test value says error?

Any ideas?

Ah, yeah, is immo 3 and I don't have the skc/pin of the replacement ecu.

Right, I'll do a bit of reading and come back to this.

Thanks for your help, I get the impression you've done your fair share of fixing Seats.

incidentally, when ross-tech states:

All relevant coding and adaptation values have been transferred from the ORIGINAL (OLD) ECU to the REPLACEMENT (USED) ECU

This can be ignored (edit typo) if you've bought one from the exact same engine, right?

Missed this reply earlier, sounds like SKC is incorrect

SKC from old ecu is needed. Coding values from memory covers things like what engine it is, whether auto/manual, whether cruise control is fitted etc. Chances are it could be the same but it needs checking or the coding worked out manually afterwards.

Alternatively you could post the ecu to someone who could either pull the SKC for you or disable the immo so the ecu is plug and play

ah yeah, cheers for the info.

have used hex editors before, will try and make this one "plug and play" then get a decent ecu and fix it properly later.

thanks

just looking into that just now, so it needs to be done with ECU removed, old PC power supply, probably a multimeter and (I haven't got this far yet) probably a home made interface. Well it's certainly a lot more interesting than vcds, doesn't look like the car will be moving today though.

Far too complicated for me, much easier with the right tool to read the SKC from the ECU via OBD2 once you've fitted it to the car

ah, so I want to be using argdubs tool instead, save the hassle

Just buy a chingy version of vag commander for £30 off eBay and use that to either extract the pins or perform an immo dump from the old to the new ecu.

I can't believe how much coverage the one I bought has and how well it functions. Makes me wonder why I spent £1500 on a genuine arbrites unit a few years back!

Pretty simple.
All that's required is
Old ecu + matching skc
New ecu + matching skc
Vcds

Carry out as per vcds says, for fitting a used ecu.

Soft codings can be inputted afterwards as it shouldn't effect the immobiliser.

That's unless your epprom is corrupt or the skc code is being put in wrongly.

Its a shame postage is so high otherwise you could of sent them to me and I could read out the immo data on the bench or even immo off them for you.

As above, cheap Vag Commander from ebay is what i was referring to, it will pull the ecu SKC in about a minute. Its a great tool, i use it a lot

cheers guys, sound advice, I don't really need the car for a week or so, so I'm going to get one of the readers that'll extract the skc from the used ebay one without the potential for me messing it up, it'll probably be more expensive to make the interface anyway. Good stuff, will update when its done

right so I had a k-line cable, got vag commander, it'll connect to the immobilizer and read, but not the ECU, just says can't connect, turn off ignition, turn on and try again, so I've tried it about 10 times with every setting. No joy

Tried it with argdubs tool (both versions) it's getting an error message failing to connect 0x01, read that you should try removing the instrument panel fuse, this gives FAIL 0x07.

Reckon I might have bought a faulty ECU to replace my faulty ECU, yet in VCDS it shows up VIN and IMMO ID

sounds like your vag commander doesn't work.

Open vag commander make sure you have the right com port selected and "k-line" in the drop down box click connect and select engine then the rest is easy

if vcds is showing vin and immo data the epprom isn't corrupt and the ecu is fine.

coolio,

another version of vag commander and/or cable it is then. My cable doesn't allow CAN, but that shouldn't matter.

just funny that I can't access it directly via command line either, things can go wrong there though. Sick of it for now, got a wedding on Saturday (not mine) so reckon I'll come back to it next week.

I've just bought an old car from 1992, it probably doesn't even have an immobiliser  that makes me happy, well, until I get back to an empty space some day

Or you might be able to use Vag Eeprom Reader to view the skc, it works with a kkl cable, although I have only used it to extract skc from immo and to change mileage. I can send you a copy of that to try if you like?
