I don't have the convenience pack so wipers are manually operated. However if the front wipers are on, the rear wiper will activate as soon as you stick the car into reverse gear. Not ideal if you've got a bike rack strapped to the rear windscreen. Anyone know if the auto-wipe in reverse can be deactivated?

If you have access to VCDS you can enable an option inside the CAR setup screens to selectively turn it on or off.

09 - Central Electrics
Security Access, code is 31347
Adaptions
"(2) Heckscheibenwischer-Menusteuerung Komfortwischen HW auswählen" - Change Value to Active.

Put out fuse F47 in fuse box. :)
This fuse is rear wiper.
When needed again, just put it back.

I so need this doing

Its really annoying esp when it also activates the rear washers aswell

To remove the fuse is more comfortable, without any changes in VCDS and without any warning light on panel something is not energised, no error warning light...

No error warning light using VCDS. The wiper works when asked by the stalk. Why the hell would you want to remove the fuse & have no rear wiper when you need it? Stupid.

Not everybody has access to VCDS.

Fuse is simply solution, VCDS is really complex if he has no experience with it. This forum is full of VCDS newbies questions "how to repair something" what even they do not know that they changed it......
He can pay somebody to do it, but when it comes to warranty, service can say there was an unauthorized access to headunit... Can be problem if you cannot recover original setting by yourself when needed..

I have to disagree with the last statement you make here, dealers are stupid, and haven't got a clue as to what the standard feature sets are on cars as it stands, I've been VCDS modding since 2006 on three different SEATs and no one at a dealer has ever told me there has been an unauthorised modification when I've taken the vehicles in for Warranty work as well as the standard service.

The only risk you run is if the dealer update the software or coding on a module, they may revert it back to factory coding, at which point you ask your local friendly VCDS owner to update the module again, who generally aren't out to extort money from people, just cover their costs.

The official Ross-Tech interfaces can be purchased here:
http://store.ross-tech.com/shop/cat/VCDS.html

They come with a licence on the cable that entitles you to the latest version of VCDS, some of the knock off Chinese ones don't play nice with the software, and some work flawlessly. Personally, if I'm attaching something to my car, I'd rather have the supported interface from Ross Tech.

I thought that you could disable automatic rear windscreen wipe on reverse via the visibility options menu in the main touchscreen display?

In the context of the OP's situation, not stupid at all. The rear wiper isn't needed (wanted!) when the bike rack is on.

If you're going through the time and effort to put a bike rack on then it's not too much bother to pull that fuse. When bike rack is taken off put the fuse back. Really no hardship there.

Another option is to purchase the app "Carista", which is kind of like a VCDS Lite: I bought it for this exact thing for my mk2. Other settings available to change are the number of times the lane change flashes for, beep on lock, DRL's on and off, windows and sunroof operation on FOB... And quite a few other things for a fraction of the cost, however it isn't a full VCDS solution. Plus, it can be used with Audi's, BMW's, and other VAG cars.

I think it costs about £15 or so. I can put up some screen shots of the options if you like mate

The VCDS option enables the menu option in the CAR settings screen. If it's not appeared you may need to reset the unit with a long press of the power button until the screen clearly looks like it's restarting.

If your still having trouble, I'll take a look on mine tonight.
