hi guys
hoping this has an easy answer and am sorry if its a stupid question.

my cupra was in a crash and therefore it had to have an engine transplant to the amk engine out of the leon cupra r. my question is how can i tell if its got the ko4 turbo without spending hours taking the car apart, is there an easy way of telling the difference between the ko4 and ko3 as its been bugging me for a while. the problem is i dont no anything about the engine transplant as it was before i got the car so i dont no how much is leon and how much is ibiza

cheers guys

dont think its off an s3 cos isnt the inlet manifold fliped round the other way?

il have to have alook but i cant see much else other than the actuator. is there a way of telling if its a ko4 by looking at the actuator? or will i only no by seeing which way up the turbo is

this is really confusing

cheers

iv had a look at the engine codes and its from either a leon cupra r or s3 210bhp model year 02-03. it comes standard with the ko4 but im not sure if the previous owner put it in with that turbo or used the standard k03 from the orginal engine

yer this is wot i thought, it feels very slow, it doesnt have an upgraded intercooler or manifold or exhaust system so im not sure weather without these modifications it would make much more performance than a ko3. im not really sure and just want to double check that it definatly has got a ko4. wot parts would the previous owner had to of downgrade then for the ko3 to work?

but mate why would someone spood at 210bhp engine in a Mk3 and then not upgrade things like exhaust and FMIC? Seems strange to me. Someone thats doing those kind of transplants are bound to be doing it for power, so would want maximum out of the engine it seems to me...

i no wot you mean it seems strange. but because it was in a crash and thats why it had the transplant the job was done on the cheap and was bodged in some ways. thats why i got it so cheap and have been slowly fixing it up. its been a bit of a project really. il get some pics up on the engine bay
cheers

I'm going to guess in advance they've just used the block, and nowt else

nothing wrong with that really

hope this gives you an idea anyway

k03 turbo, std inlet

that'll be 'normal' with a different head maybe... maybe a different block - but nothing too exciting sadly

dam, i had a feeling it was going to be a ko3. cheers anyway. at least i now finally know. if its the whole block that was changed, if i wanted to put a ko4 on there would it be easier or just the same. i.e would there be less work involved and less parts id need to change
cheers

cheers guys. thanks alot for all that. uv been a great help. and cleared up alot of things i had on my mind. at least now i no wot i got to do
