dodgey brakes

hi i have a 19 tdi mk1 leon and every now and then it loses the brakes
the pedal goes hard as if the engines not running i'm guessing its servo
related i:e vacuum pump or pipe related just wondering if anyone else has had
this problem thanks

its definatly a vac proplem,if its an intermitent fault id say vac pump rather than a pipe,could be wrong tho

There's a non-return valve in the pipe to stop the servo losing vacuum when the engine is off. Could be sticking - I think there was a thread about this, but the problem here was imediate loss of vacuum, not intermittant loss while driving.

The vacuum pipe from the pump has been known to fail too - see this thread.

thanks for replys, i made time to have a look yesterday as was getting worse
took off engine cover and wiggled pipes i heard a hissing and found a
hard plastic tube by the pump had cracked.while driving the engine has been moving and opening the crack and emptying the vacuum resovoir cheers.
