Well I finally managed to get the car on the rolling road after having ran a DPF delete and map for about 6k miles.

standard graph and video can been seen here, in my Progress thread...

Here is the DPF delete graph

Note the mass amount of exhaust smoke :p

Just want to get the mainland boy's thoughts on it as the car has been done here in Northern Ireland. How does this compare to other's and in particular the amount of smoke...?

The one thing which is stopping me getting DPF delete - the amount of smoke!!! :)

***EDIT*** i now know that the DPF delete includes the physical removal of this filter/cat and is not just a change to the remap function. :) so my mutterings below dont need answering.

can someone explain to me what exactly is involved with a DPF delete? Is it purely just deleting the warnings that come up and preventing the regeneration process, or does it somehow lead to exhaust fumes diverting or avoiding a filter?

As my understanding is that due to EC rules and the amin of further reducing emissions (in this case particulates from diesels) newer cars have a filter to reduce soot emissions. This filter holds the soot, and when the car is running hot (eg on a motorway) when the temps in this exhaust and filter are high enough the soot gets burn off into an ash within the filter and thus takes up far less room.
If you do lots of short runs and so temps are not enough to burn the soot off the filter can fill with soot, so the ecu regerates the filter by injecting extra diesel to burn off the soot / increase temps in the filter.

If the DPF delete involves a physical part being changes removed or diverted then fine (and it sounds like the soot exiting the exhaust increases so this may be the case), but if not that it simply deletes the measuring of and warning of the DPF then could the filter become clogged, leading to loss of performance?

DPF Delete involves physically removing the big filter off exhaust and mapping out all of the settings

BHP Figure above is quite low compared to the rest of us running Milltek's but your torque figure is almost same as mine

I notice that in the graph the max bhp is at a lower rev range than the CC/JBS maps which may point out to the lower bhp figure?

any links to CC/JBS graphs? I should probably state now that i run a standard exhaust setup apart from the miltek downpipe but 15bhp would be a lot to gain from an exhaust.

Can anyone comment on the smoke? Seems to be quite a lot considering the power. Are the people running 230+bhp experiencing similar amounts of smoke or even less perhaps?

If you look in the JBS section under the thread (DPF Delete - Mild and wild) you will see most graphs.

I had mine done by them (Mild Map), came off the rollers at 222.8bhp and 342lbft torque. Standard exhaust.

Now have milltek exhaust and WILD map and feels faster so should be 230+bhp. never managed to get rolling roaded due to JBS's workload :(

Smoke i would say on mine is slightly less, not by much. On standard exhaust there was less smoke than yours

Hi.
I have a couple of quick questions.
1. Is the DPF removal legal. i.e if you get stopped by the coppers or VOSA will you get done.
2. Unless you tell your insurance, surely you are driving without insurance.!!

1. Legal as MOT is a smoke test only at the moment and it passes with ease

2. Have already told my insurance down as a decat and noted as a DPF removal

Alot less smoke that mine!

Ask anybody who saw the back of my car on friday afternoon when i arrived at the convoy point for Edition 38 i believe as i parked up alot of them said "no smoke no poke" hence my new sticker

I would say mine has similair if not slightly more soot than that depending on temerature, nothing to be worried about, the DPF delete is legal just now and can pass MOT testing.
:)

Did you get the "No smoke, No poke" sticker as well Andrew? Class int it? That was the first one i got when i had the mod done, my favorite by far! ;)

yeh i wanted to stick it by the exhaust but it wouldnt stick so its on back window now

cheers for the input guys! I had a look at your graph BIGG addicted, and i dont think max power is lower in the rev range. It's at 4201rpm and yours is at 4120rpm

Its hard to compare my 2 graphs as standard one reads just past 4000rpm but DPF delete goes on past 4500rpm but it seems like i dont hold the torque for as long as i did when standard. Is this normal?

Your spot on bud, apologies. Yeh i noticed your torque drops off a bit but will be the nature of the graph, JBS say the very aggresive throttle response on there maps is needed to get the big BHP figures, but 215bhp is still a lot compared to satdard!:)

I keep seeing this aggressive throttle response crop up and i can honestly say i dont think i have that at all... Maybe I do and don't realise? But from what i remember, it just seems to be the same as when the car was standard, only with more power now...

Maybe since mine is less aggressive, that's why I am seeing the far better than standard fuel economy??

it rolled 185.9bhp standard so i've still got a gain of nearly 30bhp but it would be nice to have it sitting at at least the 230bhp mark :)

Throttle response on the JBS map is quite sharp. Easily controllable when you get used to it but when first driving it can catch you out.
