The dpf light must only come on when the dpf is actually faulty, not because someone only does short journeys clogging it up as I have only done short journeys for the past year and mines fine.

It comes on when the dpf is clogged up which CAN be caused by doing short journeys due to the exhaust gasses not heating up enough to burn the excess soot off.

Ye but I only do short journeys all the time and it's never happened to me.That's what I'm saying. So I don't reckon it's caused at all by short trips.Certainly not in my case.So I think you guy's are on the wrong track .If that's what you beleive then fine.
So it only happens to some cars then. Eh...?

As the man said, it CAN be caused by short trips - plus a load of other reasons. If you only do short trips and have no problems (but then, what is a "short trip"?) you must be driving in a style that gets the DPF hot enough nice and quickly, so therefore no problems. It can also be due to slow traffic ie: a lot of stop/start driving in cities / urban areas in "rush" hour; this was the case with early failures and was why Top Gear and What Car mags advised folks to steer clear of VAG cars with DPF's until the problem(s) were sorted out. Mind you, a lot of these problems were with folks driving Toureg DPF-equipped Chelsea tractors on the school run in London...

The list of potential causes is as long as your arm it seems, however fortunately most now seem to be due to a premature sensor failure rather than a particular driving style / distance.

I've just had a DPF sensor go yesterday (51k), & its already been replaced previously @ 19k

Dealer cant fit me in for almost 2 weeks, which I cant afford to be off the road for.

Spoke to the guys at the independant garage that service her, £39 for the sensor & they'll fit it FOC, part ordered yesterday from SEAT, being fitted today

I know it should be under warranty, but I just cant be arsed with the poor service for such a small amount of cash.

Bloody engine light came on today .... I wonder what it is this time.

It may DPF delete time sooner than later

I had about 5 sensors replaced in the first 6 months of owning mine. I took it to a different SEAT dealer when the DPF & Engine Management light came on and they replaced a wiring loom which seems to have fixed it.

I think if you're getting sensors replaced alot it wont be the sensors or DPF which is at fault!

Just back from the independant garage thats looks after her & the fault code was the same as before, I've done just over 1,000 mile with the current new sensor fitted, even the garage said its 99% going to be a wiring issue, chances of getting another duff sensor is very remote

Car is under warranty still, so next time the light comes on, its booked in to a dealer to be sorted.

Its the little things like this that spoil a great car
