Hey there :)

on friday after finishing work, cars been running fine until about 5 ish on friday when i just nipped out....

was waiting to go right at a junction, pulled off and CLUNK!!!!! a noisy loud clunk/ vibrate from underneath my seat/ handbrake area. so straight away i pulled over guessing my gearbox went (which seems doubtful as i had a new clutch and gearbox done about 2 month back aswell as it been running fine, no squeeks, clunks etc...until then and i dont thrash it about so i had no idea of what the noise was

Anyway after getting towed home, my mechanic mate came and checked. And said my offside driveshaft went as it wasnt attached to my gearbox anymore. but im wary of my gearbox as i hope its okay. il attach pics to show you just to get a second opinion.

But heres the symptoms

*goes into gears fine, still strong bite on clutch in each gear...but it doesnt stall..just vibrates - i imagine thats got to do with the driveshaft.

* car doesnt move - just vibrates when i try n pull off.

Other than that the car starts fine etc......

HERES THE PICS....

why are all the driveshaft bolts loose? could it be possible they werent tightend up when you had the clutch done?

well it wouldnt move when i tryed when it first happened..

like i put in in first and...the bites still really strong but when i took my foot off the clutch it didnt stall, just keep vibrating....i only did that for a second like. would that have something to do with the driveshaft not being attached also?

yea thats right... if the drive shafts not attached, then the drive will go to the wheel with the least resistance... so the gearbox will have just been spinning the output shaft of the gearbox... thatll be what was vibrating, which is normal.

looks like a couple of bolts have sheared off

when my ns shaft did similar it smacked a hole in the casing - i doubt it could on the drivers side but check block to be safe

i checked underneath mate, no holes or anything..no leaks under the car. so do you think im better off just buying a new driveshaft?

no driveshaft is expensive and id like to bet yours is fine. you do however have a problem if its sheared any bolts, as youll either need to drill/retap or get a new output flange.

take it back to whoever fitted the gearbox 2 months ago if you feel you cant do it. youve probably got rights as long as it was all official/invoiced and not a mate did it for you?

at least it's no major damage so a small mercy i guess

i can only suggest that it looks like a bolt has shered in the pics - might be lucky and be able to tap it round yet

you need to find some one breaking a car and see if they will seperate the output flanges from the box, alot of people wont want to do this a a box is worth abit more complete. might be worth trying vw/seat dealer or maybe GSF do them?

cant believe scrapyards wont have a mid 90's Vag car with the part you require.
