Hi

During a scan with Vag-Com a few months ago an error was found on my car (1.8T AUQ)

1 Faults Found:
17748 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Incor. Correlation
P1340 - 35-00 - -

I've looked in many places but haven't come up with a solution.

What's really the preoblem? What can I check?

Check that timing belt is is correctly installed -- i.e. that camshaft and intermediate shaft (if there is one on that engine) are all timed properly to the crankshaft.

your engine ECU requires various information from your engine in order to run efficiently and to even run at all. the cam and crank position sensors do what they say on the tin, relaying a pulse signal back the to engine ecu so the computer knows what position the engine is at and how fast its doing it ( just like an abs sensor) so it knows whan to add fuel and spark etc.

The trouble code have been thrown up as the ecu has recieced and incorrect signal (poss dirt on the pulse/reluctor ring -- unlikely) or one/both of the sensors are breaking down. The best thing is to locate the sensor pulgs and make sure they are propperly connected to the loom and free from dirt/corrosion/water etc and clear the DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes) take the car out on a couple of mile road test and read the codes again. if they dont come back then youe home free.

chances are if either or both sensor is faulty your car will be hard to start (keep turning over and over) or you'll get random missfire under certain condtions.

Hope this is of help.
