Had a debate with a mate over this, however I have read that the Cupra and the Cupra-R both have the same engine. However the Cupra-R was remapped from 156bhp to 180bhp when it left the factory. Do they still both have the same AYP engine code though?

Mine is a 2002 51 plate Cupra-R, so what engine code is mine? There is other sites which say AQX or AYP.

I will have a look. However I thought AQX was the the 2000 version of the engine and AYP was the 2001-2002 version?

that may be the case. but in theory, a car could have been made in 2000 and sat in a field for 2 years before registration ;)

AQX 12/99-10/00

AYP 09/00-05/02

Thats 'BUILT' dates not registered mind but as to when and where they left the shop floor to go to Seat Sport for the R treatment well only the chassis will tell ya date wise
