Well coilovers cost me around £850, and brakes £770 (got a bargain on ebay, brand new, ex vw dealer had to get rid of them), I made few styling mods: body kit (ibherdesign) £800 + spraying, roof spoiler £150, finichi firenze 19'' £1200 with tyres, lambo doors (was stupid to do it ;/) £1000, remus back box £300, plus some small pieces like chrome mirror covers, window tints etc. Conversion would be biggest ever expense and it will take a good while to save... but I hope one day it will be done :)

built up bit by bit hence the required conversion rather than a trade in and upgrade

personally i would save ya conversion cash and use it to buy a track car if you wanna drive power mad as it sounds like the car is more suited to show than go, where's the pics anyway :):)

Apparantly if fits straight in, I was thinking about getting one from golf gti, same engine as FR 200bhp, code AXX or BWA.

It's got to be out of another Leon (or at least the ECU has to be) otherwise you'll run into silly problems like your rear windows won't open

I'll get some pics ones snow will melt, since I moved don't have a garage so it's covered in a parking :) TIIEWL thanks for that info I thought it can be any 2.0 tfsi vag engine. It's gonna be much harder to get seat's one. But I'm not in big rush, like I mentioned I'm gonna be a dad in June/July so it's gonna slow me down.

I got one out of an A3 sportback (5dr) but this was recognising that I'd have to swap nearly all the wiring out anyway (including the dashboard, cos I was after the DSG gearbox in the Toledo)

When you swap the engine/ECU, for convenience you'll want to swap the clocks etc over too... otherwise you have the added expense of getting yours unlocked (and obviously Golf clocks won't fit in your dash)

An FR is definitely the easier & cheaper option - even with your existing mods

Don't forget you've got modified insurance to pay when it's done vs. a standard car

I think Fl@pper is spot on with this comment. You should just get something for speed or track only.

Given the mods you have mentioned it sounds like this 1.6 is a real 'show car' with the body kit the lambo doors etc. Most show cars aren't go cars. They're for showing off the creators design and Ideas.

It's very risky upgrding the engine from a 1 .6 to a 2.0 turbo and not changing absolutely everything, if you don't, somethings going to give and before you know it those lambo doors are going to opened up like a tin can by the fire brigade.

Get something else to bomb about in and then if anything happens at speed, you're not destroying your pride and joy you've put your cash into.

You'd be much better getting a stripped out Clio 182 or similar, even taxed, insured motd it'd still be cheaper than your final cost of the conversion.

End of the day it's up to you mate, you've already spent a LOT of money on your other modifications. I'd say get the Leon slammed down on those coilovers, look after it, polish it clean it drive it with respect, enter shows...

 I'm pretty sure a 1.6 with a TFSI engine in it doesn't suddenly turn into a death-trap!!

For some, running two cars just isn't practical. I don't do trackdays, but I still want a car I can enjoy on the country roads to work

....and I like my cars to be a little bit different, which is why I mod them. Not all modified cars have to go on a show n' shine stand.

 firstly why is are modified cars so hard to insure and so much more expensive... could it be insurance comapnies think of them as death traps... claims on wheels???? :cartman:

Secondly having two cars when compared to the other option is more practical. More practical than no car cause your car is in the garage having all the works carried out.. (can take a few weeks most the time.)

You've also got increased chance of problems because it is not being put together in factory conditions with mechanics that have had thousands of SEATs pass their trained eyes...so the car is off the road again.

The only way its not practical is if you don't have the parking space required for the other car.

On the matter of UK country roads I had a lot more fun little 1.2. that car you had to drive flat out everywhere. The extra 200BHP I have now is believe it or not less fun. Yes I can get to the magic 60mph speed limit on the straights a faster but that's not what it's about.

On the subject of modifications don't even get me started, I'm sporting most mods available pal. The choice of mods before mentioned for me scream 'MAX POWER TAKE A PICTURE'.. that's cool. I like show cars.

It sounds like the owner of this thread has a great looking car that doesn't need the power.
If he really wanted power on that car he'd have spent the money on power sooner.

now I'm off to go install aircon and sub woofers in my caterham 7.

I think it's cos, historically, the people having the most accidents are those in modified cars.

I doubt many insurance claims by young people are cos their engine's sheared a mounting.... vs. say crashing into someone/something cos they were driving too fast.

Anyway, not really for this thread is it.

Agreed with ZBoyd, DPJ and Flapper. You will end up with a car that costs far more to insure than a normal 2.0T, and selling it on will be a bit of a problem also.

It would be easier and cheaper to sell up and get another car.

I would do it sooner but when I bought the car I was only 20 and insurance on 1.6 cost me 2k. now I got 3 years NCB and will be at least 25 before I'll save the money so it may not be that bad.

Regardless of how much you love this car this really is a lose, lose, lose situation. Its gonna cost more than you think to do, insurance is gonna be very expensive and difficult to find and to top it off you will struggle to sell it and prob lose loads on resale value and for what an engine with 200hp or 280hp if you pump even more money into it .

buy an fr or cupra or similar and modify that at least youll be able to insure it and sell it on with half decent residuals.

change car is my opinion, you'd be pssing into the wind doing a conversion.

if you want a cheaper option as well instead of cupra or Fr try the vRS, same engine same tuning options and underpinnings, cheaper price second hand. cheaper insurance as well

not that im biased but i reckon a better interior as well.

plus nothing p!sses off BMW drivers more than being unable to keep up with a skoda on the nurburgring.

oh ****, your right, your interior is pretty tidy, SEAT has the shittest interiors of the group

is that sarcasm i see there:shrug:

i think the leon is the best looking VAg car by a long way, but i cant stand the interior, really dark. its like they stopped trying

not at all mate, I would have thought the skoda interior would be sorta rubbish like the leons but yours is alot like the golfs. It looks nice :)

I think the leon looks the best too, shame about the options such as no dsg and haldex

he vRS gets DSG now, wasnt available when i ordered mine.

My toss up was for either the GTI, Cupra or vRS. price wasnt really an issue, i could get good discounts on all 3, as well as the tax off of it due to me exporting it out to germany

wasnt keen on the GTI for some reason. they just looked to similar to the rest of the golfs. ended up looking at the cupra or the vRS.

the boot and interior did it for me on the vRS. my thought was that a remap would put me into the power realms of the std cupra so i could cover all bases there. wish i knew it had the k04 turbo, cos i would 100% have gone for the cupra knowing what i know now.
