Engine "hunting" and EPC light on

Hi all
Car has been sat for a few weeks but got it fired up yesterday and it ran fine, drove it down the road fine. Came back to it in the evening, was left running a while to warm up and the revs started hunting up and down between 500rpm and say 1200rpm then the epc light comes on. Any idea what this could be?
Have done a search and checked my brake lights etc and clutch pedal sensor hasnt fallen out etc. From my search I couldnt find much about the EPC light linked to the engine hunting. Its happened a few times at idle and once the engine management light came on. I let the car cool down and fired it up again earlier and it ran sweet as a nut.
Could it just be the MAF needs a clean?
Hopefully got someone coming tonight to scan it with vag com so will update.

i would be inclined to say duff maf, mine was hunting with eml light when the maf was dead.

Well it seems to have cleared it self abit. Just in the middle of changing the ignition switch which is a right pain in the arse of a job! Soon as it's back together will take it for a spin and update.
