engine type in a 2000 ibiza cupra?

i understand there is a difference in the engines/or code between the mk3 cupra's for example isn't one AYP? need to know so i can order a coilpack from euro parts.

2000 models used the AQX engine

2001 onwards used the AYP engine

coilpacks are different, the early type bolt onto the cam cover using allen bolts where as the later typre just push on

I would disagree, Im the owner of a 2001 Seat Ibiza Cupra and the motor code is AQX.

is it a UK vehicle ??

AQX engine did not meet emmision regulations for the UK so they were taken back by Seat UK and registered by them before the end of 2000

AYP engine is EU4 compliant (i think that's the right reference) and were used in the UK from jan 2001

(Above is what i was told by Seat UK when they took away the last AQX engined cupra from our showroom in dec 2000)

Dont think there is any accurate pattern in motor codes used through the 2000-2001 production period. Only way to make sure is to check you engine block or service log book!

Btw it doesn't matter if you use the AQX,AYP coilpacks.. You can also use the coilpack from an Ibiza Cupra-R..
there 2 different kind of coilpacks (new and old) the latetst coilpacks are white on top.. they are better then the black ones on top...

I assume that, it goes the other way to then, and you can use the bolt down ones on the AYP for example.

would cylinder 1 be the first one on the left when looking at the engine bay from the front of the car. just ordered a new coilpack today, are they easy and quick to fit?

yep that is the first one..
it's easy it takes 2 minutes..
first release the wire behind the coilpack.. press a little lip (?) down and pull it backwards...
then pull the coilpack... it can go a little bit hard to get out..
Do not pull to hard...
if you get it out.. then put the new one back
and the wire back..
then clear the codes with vagcom.. and off you go..
