Oh yeah that'd be a great idea, make the Leon even more similar to an Alfa...

Doesn't DeSilva have anything else to say apart from long rear lights and hidden rear door handles? :censored:

I'm really disappointed that Seat are going to sacrifice the good looks of the Leon to fit within the portfolio of a poor looking new Ibiza and a new 'old' rip off from Audi saloon.

The rear lights of the new 2009 Leon look like a Astra from the 90's according to what you can see from the spy shots and no doubt the front will follow. For me the rear shot of the current Leon makes it look superb, however money talks.

I've always believed that car companies should make their range as diverse in visual terms as possible it would then people from being turned off the WHOLE range rather than one car.

My factory starts in January 2009, first I am making a 7 seater sports car with a wooden roof and 9 exhausts, then in February will come a Smart car people carrier :)

Exactly my thoughts although I have never really thought of the new Leon as an oil painting (despite me having bought one).

The new Ibiza is not to my taste at all - like the Skoda Fabia, it looks awkward and gawky. Actually its ugly. End of.

As for the new saloon, that is probably the worst thing SEAT could have done as they all of a sudden become the brand that sell old Audi models. The only good thing that could possibly come out of that in my opinion is that hopefully SEAT will bring the quality interior from that car in to other models.

It is very likely that the saloon will drop its value very very quickly like the Toledo saloon before it. I still remember my 16 month old 1.8T 04 plate Toledo with 10,000 miles which I paid £6400 for in November 2005.....

Looking forward to seeing real pics of the Leon though although I hope they refrain from changing the body, and perhaps just update bumpers and lights.

i agree with mork here. it is very unlikely that there will be any changes to any bodywork. it costs too much for tooling and reprogramming welders etc is a huge job which gives no financial return.
face lift will simply be things like interior fabric, lights, grille, wheels etc. basically stuff that gets bolted on to the actual car, not the car itself.

If its a facelift model why would it need all the testing etc, surely the running gear etc would stay the same? If its lights and bumper changes which surely is all that amounts to a facelift then a mule wouldn't be required because on the mule they very rarely use the new lights but re-hashed bits off other cars.

If there were major component changes then they could do that in a standard looking Leon without having the bra and knickers look!!!!

Engines will change. That's a definite - diesels don't comply with 2010 regs & the Leon is the only one of the VAG class using the old 2.0TDI engines for example. VAG are rotating to the newer engines, petrol and diesel.

A3, Golf, the Rocco and Octavia running these, Seat are using the old engines and are lagging behind. For example, I've just ordered an A3 2.0TFSI (petrol) which is one of the newer EA888 class of engines which emits 164CO2 - almost the same as the old 2.0TDI in the current FR.

I'd say they'll update the chassis like what VW done with the golf and called it the MK6.
It could be like what they done with the Exeo and change parts of the suspension and upgrade the steering from the A4 and make it much better
