Hi Guys,

I’m pretty sure my car has faded a bit. The plastic bits, like the bumper and fuel filler cap, seem to be a different shade to the metallic bits. The insides of the doors also seem a bit brighter. Depending on the light, sometimes the colours don’t seem to differ.

I recently sprayed my mirrors and door strips to match. When I picked up the paint, I had it matched off the code and they seem to be a different shade too (brighter)!
When I’ve seen older Leons and Mk3 Ibizas, they’ve looked a bit brighter than mine.

I’m 99% sure that mine is lacquered (don’t get any paint on a rag if I polish a bit), so I don’t suppose I can do much about it (polish-wise).

I guess that it’s not covered under any warranty or anything is it? Does anybody have any suggestions on how to restore the colour?

Thanks

There are some good products out there made by AutoGlym. Vauxhalls flame red is notorious for fading to pink, and i've seen first hand this autoglym colour restorer bring it back to its full red.

have a look in halfrauds or whatever - and try some products out.

Do they work even on lacquered paints?

you should try postin in the car care bit they know everything about polishin and if i am right one of the boys owned a yellow ibiza used to drive a clio 172 it was mint .My car is emocian red and everytime i polish it then wax it comes up deeper more red my bumpers and fuel cap are slight different colour as well because they are plastic

IIRC I read a post on here which stated that the bumpers were painted in a totally different place from the car therefore the batch number for the paint on the car is different from that on the bumpers? Maybe why it looks different?

the metal body of the car is painted by electrostatics (positive charge on the paint and the body is earthed)

the plastic parts are painted manually elsewhere so even when new like mine if you are in the wrong light you can see the difference

I also had some runs in the lacquer on my front bumper so the dealer had it flatted and polished at a bodyshop

also its not just the yellow

Very true that - could've been me. Used to work for a coatings manufacturer and you'll never get plastic and metal paint to match.

Metamerism anyone????;)
