For months now my car has had the engine management light on, and ive only just got round to getting my mate to plug in his handheld diagnosis tool,

It returns the code "16501" which is "Engine coolant temp circuit - Low input (high temp) "

I was just wondering if anyone has had this before and what exactly it is i need to replace..... temp sensor??? and also where the part is located.

Any help would be brill, thanks very much.

Might help others help you if yo posted up what your car is.

Yes, temp sensor fail a lot. On most Vdubs, the sensor is on the radiator - but ... see above.

Is it the sensor - can't say but that is where you start to look. Could be wiring. Could be sensor - could be - not likely - but could be a problem on the ECU. Swapping parts is the recommended solution although temp sensors are not too expensive. You need to trouble shoot the problem or take the car to someone who can troubleshoot the problem.

You could look at the actual temp values in the measuring blocks of the VAG-COM or other factory level tool and from those measurements might be able to decide a next course of action. But without more information, all we can do on this forum is guess and the chances are it will be a bad guess.
