sorry to dig this up. Just got this code now. This its the boot handle!? The S logo, mine stays horizontal now rather than lie flat... not sure what im getting at but wondered if you still had this fault code or worked out what it was!?

Hi, what did you do about this, my daughter's car also has this problem? Could be a return spring failure or just stiff - daughter hopes its a FOC warranty repair!

Thanks, for that reply, but, it feels like its not got any return "effort" - ie spring. This is turning out to be roughly a copy of what happened with her early 2002 Chill 6K Ibiza, two models on and Seat still using "proved to be faulty" designs that are cheapened versions of what VW used 10>15 years ago. Car has been in for its second service today but I have not heard what the fix was yet.

To be fair I got a brand new boot handle off eBay and replaced mine, though I did strip and paint it first.

Ah, that old game, well my wife has a 9N Polo in silver, and its hatch handle corroded badly after a couple of years or so (salty muck getting "hovered" up due to shape of Polo rear), then a painted one appeared on ebay - brilliant, I bought and fitted it, job done. Then a couple or so years later same thing happened - looks crap but as ebay is now only selling primed ones I'm not too interested. I think that VW's supplier of that part had quality problems round about mid 2002 and her car ended up being fitted with a substandard part as did others and some ended up being "binned" onto ebay. Seems that this was only a problem with silver 9N Polos of that build period.

Had similar issues with both my silver 6N2 Polo GTI and a MK4 golf of similar age. Keep us posted

Car has now been in for its second service, new hatch handle assembly on order to get supplied and fitted FOC it seems - as I would have expected as its still under warranty.
