Hi folks,

I bought my Ibiza 12-Months ago and I've done 20K in it now. It was serviced the morning before I picked it up.

In my Toledo I used to change the Oil & Air filters myself and take the car to a local garage to have the oil done, but after reading muddyboot's guide I've now got a Pela 6000 and a strap-wrench on order to do it all myself this time on the Ibiza.

So I called up the dealership and enquired about a service kit but he said they don't do that, only sell the parts individually so here are the prices I got.

Oil Filter - £5.35
Sump Plug - £1.50
Pollen Filter - £10.96
Air Filter - £10.96
Fuel Filter - £21.45

Total ex VAT - £50.22
VAT - £8.79
Total inc VAT - £59.01

Does this sound right? When I serviced my Toledo and bought the parts from my local motor factor it only cost me £30 ... I was expecing this to be higher due to OE parts.

Should I pay the extra for OE parts or just get them from my local factor? Will there be a great deal of a difference?

So moving on, never done an oil change before and I beleive that the oil I should use for my PD130 ASZ is VW505.01. I've never bought oil for the car before so if I go to my local factors or Halfrauds can I ask for this specification or is any TurboDiesel oil good enough?

Cheers for any help in advance. :)

Castrol do a 505.01 which i've used before, or anything with a good name in oils apart from Johnson - baby oil ;)

I know that when doing an oil change the sump plug should be changed - but as I'll be using the Pela I won't be removing the sump plug so I assumed it would not need replacement.

Those prices don't sound bad, personally I'd get the OE parts from the dealer.
Keep all your receipts and it gives any future buyers a bit more reassurance that you've looked after it.

Oil - it MUST meet 505.01 spec.
Millers do their "XFE-PD" oil, you can look for a local distributor via http://www.millersoils.net.
Or see if your local dealer has anything that meets the spec (repeat...must be 505.01 !)

Have fun with the Pela :)

Remember to warm the oil a bit first, otherwise it'll take forever to suck out (it'll take a while anyway, the tube is very narrow).

Nice one.

Thanks for the tips there mate. :)

Got something else I was meaning to check with you, but I'll PM you about that later.

Thanks again for the replies folks! :)

Finally got round to getting all the bits I need....

So the service parts cost me £52.45 all in. The Pela was £35 delivered and I still need some oil but it should still be a good bit cheaper than the service from Seat direct. :)

I'm not sure, but I'd guess it'll be a fair bit more than what I'll spend. And they won't do anything different other than stamp a book.

And when you do it yourself, you probably take more care and you know it's all been done properly.

Well the service was done today...

Fuel/Air/Pollen - Done when the oil was pumping out into the Pela.

The oil filter though, oh no - it's a shallow cap on the end so the strap wrench was useless... I tried everything on the hex on top (Don't have a 36mm one) and nothing would shift it, even used a hammer and screwdriver in one of the grooves to slacken it - nothing.

So my Dad's mate popped by with a 36mm hex - changed the filter over no problem and started the car ... opened the bonnet to find oil everywhere - cleaned it all up and checked the cap - solid tight it was and the O-Ring was neat and tidy... so I started the car and had a look to find where I tapped it with the screwdriver actually peirced and oil was leaking out there.

Not happy... stupid shallow designed cap! So I phoned Seat... Shut. Phoned motor factors .. no chance and then phoned some breakers but none had a cap suitable.

So I'm now left without my car until I get a cap so I need to phone Seat on Monday morning... got my Dad's Audi A6 2.5 TDI Quattro for the day but public transport next week until I get a replacement.

Hmm, its a possibility - but then I have more mess to clean if it doesen't fix it. :(

I'm only wondering now, how much Seat will charge for a replacement part but only plastic so it can't be too bad.

can you gently "weld it up"? with a soldering iron both sides

Well I removed the cap and gave that a shot Nic... done the trick.

Will buy a replacement cap tomorrow, but at least I can use the car now.

Cheers.

Service all done, using the Pela was a doddle and removing the filter pipe was as always a pain in the arse, lol!
