Fitted Boost Gauge...

Hey mate, this is how it looks in daylight...

Shows up pretty clear and the needle moves really smoothly compared to my crap autogauge one!

Guys, fitted my gauge on Saturday (what a bugger that is to run the vac tube?!).

My gauge is buzzing at full tilt, now I know about searchy, but I have one simple question.

The silly ebay people sent me feck all 4mm tubing, enough to go from pillar/gauge through bulkhead and only just into the engine bay. The only thing I had was some 3mm left over from the N249 bypass (which I also did).

Could going from 'Gauge->4mm->connector->3mm->t-connector (then re-circ/fpr) cause buzzing?

The ebay shop will exchange/refund the gauge but I was wondering if this could be the issue?

I can't see how, from my little understand it shouldn't make any difference, apart from there being slightly more area for the pressure to take up...but this wouldn't cause a buzz at peak PSI (22-24) would it?

Glad I didn't spray the bezel before installing :D :D

No, narrowing the line would help if anything that how the restrictor works. I guess you are using proper silicone hose rather than fish tank air tube you get supplied with?

Yes its cheap, but it does what I want, and I think it looks OK, will get a pic later. Will look better with a black bezel of course ;). Before I get sent a new one I wanted to check its nothing I have done.

To be fair that ebay pic looks cheap and crappy, loosk much better in situ in the car... I think.

Yep, well, I used their fish tank stuff off the back of the gauge to the engine bay, when I realised it was too short (doh) I had already run it throught the bulkhead, hence extendign with my 3mm. Surely that 4mm stuff can't cause the buzzing can it?

The fish tank tube collapses under vacuum as it's sucking, not blowing air.
It generally needs a restrictor in-line i got mine from an aquatic shop the hole is very narrow.

Just so you know, it's got a weird connection system at the back; a rubber hose, valve piece and some securing nuts and a 2.8mm i/d - 3.2mm e/d nylon tube.... I'm unsure of the quality of the connection ato be honest! I've just trimmed the nylon tube down to about 2 inches so I can use as much of my current silicone hose as possible. I'll let you know how it looks/works when I get it all in after work. If it's a problem they can have it back and I'll keep my current one in for now!

Mines turned up today ... see what you mean about the fittings... not sure need to use any of it though to be honest except the bit that fits my silicone hose.
 
I bought a anti buzz T piece from Aswome GTI. It's not the gauges fault and I've had it in the past on other boost gauges.
I wish the LCR gauges where black and not white they look much better.

I've always thought that... hate the white gauges - look cheap!

That's what I thought but couldn't see a simple way to just fit the silicone hose to that bit at the back :shrug:

Ended up using the least amount of tubing as possible and it's worked a treat, even if it is a bit chunky with all the necessary nuts!

Just looking through it now and see what you mean... :wtf:

Any pics of tubing? :rofl:

Had a closer look at the diagrams and components... you can see that one of the brass nuts is restricted (smaller bore) so I wonder if this is to smooth the gauge out ...

But basically you need the two nuts and sealing ferrels (!) plus the connector for the silcone boost hose and the adapter. Looks straight forward but suspect it is going to be a bit of a squash to get it all in without pinching the silicone hose... if so then I will need to run the nylon piping down to the footwell.

So much for a 10 min job... lol

Other option (bodged) is to just run the nut on back of gauge with nylon tube then tie wrap silicone hose to the nylon...

But like I say I think the brass nuts are needed to smooth gauge out.
