Hey guys,
As the title says, fitted a cone filter to my cupra, and there is what I can only describe as a pipe coming from the front of the engine and it went into the bottom of the airbox. But I no longer have an airbox and it seems to be redundant now... But I came across this picture and it's got a sort of mini filter on it... What isit and what does it do? ATM I have it zip tied to the side of the engine!

Cheers in advance
:)

it's part of the SAI? system which directs air straight to engine just after starting, so cover it with tights or something! if you attach a filter you won't be able to put the standard airbox back on without buying a new pipe

Ah cheers
Sorry for being stupid but what does it actually do? Just cover it with tights so it acts like filter? Will any damage have been done? I've had the new filter on for about 2 weeks or so....
Cheers

Does exactly what it says on the tin! Just a pipe for the air to come out of the engine I think.

Also called an oil breather.

Nah can't do any damage at all really just needs something over it to stop dust or debris getting into the oil.

its not an oil breather its as said its part of the sai (secondary air injection system) which adds air to the exhaust emmisions on cold start up to create cleaner fumes some green peace crap basically.
i think the pipe only goes to the standard air box to act as a silencer.

i added a small filter to mine to keep the noise down on the cold start as that 2minutes of 1200 revs was a little loud without.

I cable tied an old sock to mine. The filters from ebay wont fit without cutting the end of the pipe off.

As said above, it only functions for a minute or two on cold start-up. It went into the filter housing so it sucked in filtered air and to reduce noise.
