• Hey Guest💡👉 We have just launched our new Dealer Directory and review service Find out more now
My Golf needed a new 'air mass sensor' the other month, which sounds a lot like what you describe. I didn't have any lights/warnings, but I'd noticed hesitation at high revs and the garage immediately recognised the problem and changed it out. Saying that, it developed another intermittent fault immediately afterwards which was the final straw and I've now chopped it for my shiny new Leon FR. :)

Thats the one, thats what the first AA mechanic said, obviously he didn't know what he was talking about :ban:

Had a call from my Seat dealer today advising me that it is the air mass sensor that is faulty and needs replacing and the car won't be ready untill Monday afternoon as they have to order it in.

I'm not sure I trust them 100% because the fault code when the AA came out was "P0236 Turbo/Super Charger Boost Sensor A Circuit Faliure".

Surley this is something to do with the turbo and not the air mass sensor? Does the air mass sensor affect the turbo?

It must be a Thursday thing !! I got the engine light on, told by the dealer to drive on the motorway in 4th for 20 minutes above 2500 revs to regenerate DPF. On the way to the motorway, DPF filter light came on, dealer said, your gonna have to bring it in, and i might be charged for it as it's not a warranty part. Anyway, didnt have time to take it in (they must think all we do all day is drive around looking for things to do rather than earning a living), so i left the car sat on the drive for a week whilst i went on holiday. Came back, flashing coil, bingo, i've won, 3 lights are now on although the symbols weren't all the same so no chips came out! Called SEAT assist, AA man turned up and i took the car to HOBIN Preston in convoy. "You may be charged for this" the guy said. I told him that the car hadn't given me a chance to regenerate, so i left it with them for 5 hours. Then i get the phone call. The cars fixed and ready to be collected !! And best of all NO CHARGE, apparantly, it was a sensor fault which wouldn't allow regeneration even though the DPF was showing 56% full (should regenerate at 35% ish). Got the car back minus 50 miles of fuel. New sensor fitted. It's good to have it back !!

I dont think i've done that bad, only 1 DPF fault in 17500 miles, on a 57 Plate.

I am on 19k miles on my 56 plater tdi fr. I had ot have a fuel injector replaced under warranty so far. Thats what Seat Manchaester advised they did anyway.

DPF issues I must be lucky had none yet (touchwood).

I am looking for a remap but this may be causing all the issues.

My fault isn't a DPF issue, Ive had the DPF light on twice but it cleared no problems with driving as stated in the handbook.

Does anyone know if the "air mass sensor" affects the turbo. Pick my car up tomorrow after having one of these fitted even though The AA fault code was "P0236 Turbo/Super Charger Boost Sensor A Circuit Faliure".

Well as I suspected I have today gone into limp mode again with the flashing coil & engine management light on even though the Air Mass Sensor has been replaced.

The guy at Seat told me when I collected my car on Tuesday that the fault code came back as a sensor on the Turbo but said it was the air mass sensor confusing the ECU, hence the reason they replaced the air mass sensor and not a sensor on the Turbo.

Its booked back in for Monday but my faith is slowly fading with Seat. Its the 1st Seat I've owned, I love the car and the drive but can't be doing with visiting the dealers ever week. Heres hoping they find the correct fault on Monday and replace the correct part!

Same here, this is the best car i have owned, and i have owned a few. But in the past, when they get to about 3 years old, things start to fail. I thought that my FR would buck the trend and as i love driving it everytime i get in, i was looking forward to keeping it for a bit longer, no need to replace it. I really hope that my fault was a one off. Touch wood.

I also had that problem a couple weeks ago, My dad is my mechanic as he has his own business, (Im not sayin this is the result for everyone but....) He topped up my oil and has been fine ever since. I got exactly the smae with limp mode, flashing coil and engine management.

Dont want to be pushy but check oil and top up as everyone has said turbo fault and if you low on oil it does affect the flow and your turbo.

I phoned up seat and they said full synthetic castrol (then a bundle of letters) 5w40 so just brought 2litres at 15.99 per litre!!!!!!!!! and it done the trick. remap is awesome dude.

Well, took it back to Seat today and they are now telling me that there is high resistance on one of the wiring looms so they think this is causing the intermittent flashing coil, limp mode and engine management light.

Goes back in next Thursday for 2 days so they can trace where the fault is in the wiring and repair!

Sorry to bring this back up but did anyone find a permanent fix for this? Seems to be a number of things that stop it for a few days but nothing more??

I think the EGR is due to the new gasket I fitted.

After reading all the threads related to this and these errors there hasnt been one definitive answer. Some suggest the MAF, any of the EGT sensors, turbo vanes, fuel filter, ecu wiring (G31 fuse), charge pressure sensor, split vacuum pipe to turbo?

I know the large black pipe which comes off the bottom of the EGR has a leak as when I revved the engine my brother could feel air coming out the top of the pipe. This will be my first port of call, but would this cause the car to go into limp mode?

Make sure that pipe is pushed right up and secure all the way around. Mine came loose and I think might have threw up a flashing coil light fault. Grab it with both hands pull it up hard should click into place

Yeah I did that 2 weeks ago as the top clip failed and the pipe popped off. I checked earlier at lunch and its definitely split around the back of the pipe as oil was seeping out and there was air escaping.

Will change it asap and fingers crossed thats all it is.

Could be. I had a worn o ring that seemed to cause flashing coil light. Replaced it and it didn't come back. Then had it again but under boost error. But that seems to have cured it's self and doesn't show on vag com any more

I've got the replacement hose to go on, should have it done tomorrow on my day off. Fingers crossed this will solve my issues.
