FR or Cupra

As you may or may not know I currently own a Tolly mk 2 110bhp mapped up to 147. Lovely car but it is starting to show its age, the huge boot never gets used, and there is rarely ever anyone in the back. I've been looking at Ibiza FRs and Cupra TDI's, if I went for the cupra id be paying 350-400+ more than the FR on insurence. My question is, is it worth it? I want a nippy car that makes me smile. If the Cupra will do that and the FR wont then so be it, I have never drived a TDI Ibiza before so this is really where I need you guys for some input

Currently looking for either in the north east of england if anyone knows of one (Dealer only)

I would say go for the Cupra.
I bought a petrol FR due to the lower insurance costs,
but I'm now looking into getting a Seat FMIC and 312 brakes etc, just seems the better option having them as standard.
My mates just got a Cupra Tdi and it pulls so much

My 2 pence:

Go for a Cupra... You'll only end up adding bits from a Cupra to it anyway... And when you declare them, the insurance will be higher than it would have been for a Cupra to begin with!

I had a diesel fr which I loved, got it over a cupra at the time because I was 19 and my fr was also White. Now got a black cupra but the petrol, love it to bits. I'd go cupra. But I'd go petrol cupra!

As said above, in the long run you are probably better off with the Cupra. The differences are more pronounced on the Diesel between the FR and Cupra (different turbo I believe), than on the petrol.

anyway... anyone would have the cupra if they could afford the insurance!
I know I would but somehow the tiny bit of extra power just seems to double the insurance!

I paid out 900 quid for my modded white fr on insurance, then sold it a month later and went to buy a petrol cupra. Rang up insurance so i was insured to test drive/ drive it back if i bought it and they wanted an extra 1100 quid :| had to do it as i was literally about to set off to get it. Then last night i got a quote online for my cupra for 983 quid, so rang up, took the new policy out for 983 and cancelled my old one and got 1350 back insurance is finally fairly cheap for me!

The Fr is a fine drive but if you can afford the extra ins go for a Cupra However if its going to push your finance over the top and your going to miss out on living Then the Fr aint a bad choice as Tdi is only old group 8

Thanks for the massive response guys, I'm interested to know how the cupra has better fuel efficiency? How would a Ibiza tdi cupra compare to a Leon tdi cupra? I guess because of the power to weight ratio the Ibiza is noticeably faster. I consider my car which is a fat tolly to be quite speedy.... Keep the ideas coming folks! (ps thE bit extra per month wouldn't be a problem)

Mk 1 I guess it just a sportier golf with same engine ?

It does`nt mate, 160bhp compared to 130... Cupra is a couple of MPG down on the FR.

They are both little rockets though!
All the FR needs to match the Coop is a 312mm brake conversion and a mild remap to the tune of £500 for both.

Still wouldn't match the cupra, I had both them mods on my old fr, plus allot more.

Just get yourself a petrol cupra haha

Fr should keep you fairly happy 160-180 bhp off just a remap for 2 - 3 hundred quid? Im sure it would do.. Does the job for me but mines quite heavily modified i suppose..+ i got it when i was 18

Go cupra! i got an FR and have bought everything from the cupra including the headlining! wish i just had the cupra but kinda got one now!
