cupra then!

FR TDi ?

you mean 1999-2005 or 2006-2010?

I love the seats in the Mk2! :)

Mk 1 I guess it just a sportier golf with same engine ?
wouldn't notice much difference on weight as their diesels

I guess you mean the mk1 early diesels by cupra then!

Whatever I get it will defo be a TDI, ive been looking at a 2005 ibiza cupra in black, 40k on the clock for 7 grand...

P.S are these cars actually reliable? I have read so many reviews of people being back and forth to the dealer...

I'd try to get a facelift ibiza so 2006 onwards!
you get nicer interior, steering wheel controls, aero wipers

especially the FR diesel has massive improvements on looks :)
and weighs a bit less?

I had 2 and had no engine problems with either, just the typical rear washer spray, misting headlights
not heard any stories of any being unreliable
links ?

Im at work at the moment, i saved a couple on my favourites at home ill dig them out. Yeah about the misting headlights... how does replacing them fix the issue??

I just selotape some silica gel to the back covers and it fixes that problem!

just don't open them when the engine bay is hot coz that messes it up!

one cold morning, open + selotape and you're done :)

some drill 5 holes in the covers, but I wouldn't wanna create a hole where it wasn't designed tbh

the cupra TDi don't have as much difference
gear stick, steering wheel, mp3 stereo and wiper blades!

Fr's still look very nice with some subtle mods.. I like mine now but i have to admit to haveing a cupra bumper infront of me :p

yeah but wouldn't you have a cupra instead?

I know yours is slightly different as white being stupidly rare!

cupra don't have as much difference before and after 2006, wipers & gearstick could be done easily

I'm notsure why you don't fancy a petrol one, no difference in insurance and they feel tons better than the diesels. But if you deffo want a diesel one and insurance isn't an issue just get the diesel cupra.

Not for the extra 400 quid on insurance I would not ..,

Any colour fr that is facelift can look great with subtle mods.. I find the power plenty a remap and panel filter alone can pull figures up too 160 -180 bhp and 280-300 torque.. But if you want more and don't mind paying the extra insurance go for a cupra .. Best way to find out is too test drive a mapped fr and see if you think it's enough

Purely MPG, on the average work-run I get around 50MPG!

However if the insurence is considerably cheaper on a petrol I could save in that way instead...

AAAAAAAAAAAAA! I cant decide :( Need to get my hands on one to get a feel for it...

Anyone in the North east be willing to come show me their car??

I do 60 miles a day during the week. Used to get 50-55 average in the old mapped fr, overall about 47mpg constant. Now do the same mileage in my stage 2 petrol cupra and that does 40mpg on a run and about 34 overall average. Extra in fuel is more than worth it haha

I'm not all that far away mate. Should come to the rollingroad day 9th October will probably be a few cupras there

I did a search for cupras with the postcode NE33 2PE, some B&B in newcastle and it said there was one 3 miles, test drive ! - diesel cupra

I have sold my sport tdi for an 20V FR and I simply think it's because on day to day driving the diesel is quite taxing to drive, especially as my driving is like 50/50 towns or motorway, so don't really do like 90% motorway for the effortless motorway cruising

I pick it up tomorrow so can give it a good feel and let you know what I'd recommend :)

there is quite a few differences from the cupra and the fr all what has been mentioned already fmic, brakes, black interior shiny pedals and vent rings then theres the better suspension and bushes that all the fr people upgrade to.
not sure if the fr comes with a spare alloy like the cupra does either.

Gents,

These are the kinds of quotes im getting... (10 month policy)

FR TDI £602
Cupra TDI £922
FR 20VT (150) £698
Cupra (180) £734

(A TDI cupra is more than a 20VT... LOL )

if you are still on the edge definately get the petrol :)

I have picked mine up and loving it, not had a petrol in a while & really surprised at the low down pick up
I can see with a few choice mods it will be very nice!

if you drive more 30-70mph get the diesel as they are born cruisers, but the petrol will navigate the odd junction effortlessly which I would argue the diesels can't do!

Get the cupra TDI

160bhp remaps around 195bhp
Bigger turbo
Seat sport FMIC with bigger diameter metal intercooler pipes
312mm 4 pot ap Brakes
beter air intake

17" alloys inc spare alloy
Solid wishbone bushes
Sachs dampers and lower uprated springs

front and rear bumpers different
Bigger spoiler
oval sporty looking exhaust

black headlining
nicer seats
white dials
nicer dash vents

Thats all i can notice at the moment but alot of extras there over the FR

You will be surprised the petrol cupra and the cupra TDi are very evenly matched in standerd form.
