We pay about £200 for the full kits or 3 times that from tps!

The new cams are a better quality of material so the problem does not re-occur.

Right, sorry for thread hi-jacking peeps but I know people will read if I post here!

Priced up everything I need from TPS, including new injector rockers and cam cover. £962 please!

****!

What are people's experiences with non-gen stuff? I want it to last cos I'll be keeping the car a while.

In particular I'm interested in peoples comments on steel camshaft kits such as the one I can get from AW Engineering for £300.

Has anyone re-used the injector rockers? Any problems since?

Cheers guys.

I have the uprated steel camshaft from Redmans engine centre and it seems ok, they sell the newer black faced hardned lifters to.

I never replaced the rockers, not many people do to be honest.

Ok. My mrs does about 5-600 miles a week so it gets used a fair bit.

I want long term reliability so just want to make sure if a steel cam really is the way to go. Can't say I found much to discredit them but thought it better to ask around here.

Cheers for the info mate.

Redmans sold both but obviously the steel one was more expensive so I rang them and asked for advise.....they said the steel cam was alot better for me as mine is running more power then standard.

Give them a ring there quite helpfull :)

I got mine done at a local specialist for circa £600, new cam, followers, bearing shells, bolts, gaskets, an engine flush and oil and filter changed twice all OE spec stuff. If you are in the Stoke area I cam PM you his details. I didnt do it myself in the end because his price was so good and I trust him. Or if you like getting dirty then vwenginerecon.co.uk supply the parts you need, I think you already mentioned them. :D No new rockers its been great since.

Right stripped down this eve. 4 lifters worn, cam lobes worn. Injector rockers generally look ok. Glad I looked before it popped a lifter properly. Have the wrong tandem pump gasket though.......

MJ, I sent you a PM the other day asking a few q's. Appreciate your experienced answers mate.

Basically I would appreciate anyone's views on re-using the old injector rockers. I'm quite stuck in that I don't want to spend the extra £250 odd but equally I don't want to knacker my new cam.

Come on geezers let me know what you lot got up to with yours........

Sorry mate I've had a busy couple of weeks.

We always use the original rocker arms but replace the injector seals which come with the bullet plunger which will remove any free movement in the rockers.

Ok am using the old injector rockers.

Have fitted the cam but it feels very tight to turn. All bolts are new, shells new, caps in right order etc.

I've also noticed that the injector rockers run extremely close to a couple of lobes. Like the cam is too far over one way, or the rockers are over too far. You can see that the rockers are slightly over to one side of the injector lobes. It doesn't say anything about lining the rockers up in the VW replacement instructions, just to bolt them down correctly.

Anyone else notice this? All parts lubed up with proper cam lube etc.

Anyone have experience of AW Engineering cam before?
