FR TDI Early oil change & ownership...

I have had my Candy White FR TDI for about 6 weeks and have had the pleasure of racking up 2,000 miles so far. The car was delivered to me and had about 250 miles on the clock. I had asked the delivery man about running in - his opinion was don't worry too much about the revs, just make sure that after about 600-700 miles you get a full oil change. Theory of this being that all the cr*p that has been generated during run can comes out and some nice new oil can lube the engine. I thought his opinion was valid as he was about twice my age so I naiively assumed he must be right...!

Needless to say although this advice has stuck in my mind, I have not changed the oil. It is always in the back of my mind that I should get it done, however I don't want to get it done at my local garage as they will charge a fortune for what is essentially an easy job (plus as Seat dealers go I think they are useless!).

Has anybody considered doing the same to their TDI FR's? I drive mine hard and just want to ensure that the engine internals are in as fine shape as possible as it is a long wait to the 1st service!

Can anybody recommend someone in the Midlands area who can perform this, and independent (preferably VAG group) specialist who won't charge the earth as long as I supply the correct oil!

Apart from that ownership has been pretty sweet. Kerbed one of the wheels (opted for the 18s) 10 days ago (and counting), an experience which I am only just getting over. I find myself looking at other 57 reg cars with big wheels to see who else has done it as some sort of consolation (call me obsessive). Thought I was going to get it repaired instantly although will wait a few months now I think to see how many other I kerb....

Car drives superb. I would say not as accurate handling as my Megane 225 although still holds the road very well and feels composed. Torque is fantastic and makes it such a quick car in everyday driving terms. Engine also more happy to rev than my previous remapped Ibiza FR. Although both engines similiar power, the Ibiza died more noticeably in the higher revs, although the new 2.0 TDI's tend to rev more freerly.

Candy white also the right choice for me. Admittedly one of the filthiest cars on the road at the moment although looking forward to waxing it ready for the summer months. Looks fantastic when clean.

Would appreciate input regarding the oil note above!

Personally I wouldnt bother- let the filter do its job.

In addition, do you know for certain that the first oil fill is the same grade - i.e. isnt a lower grade to help the engine wear in?

I personally wouldnt have trusted the delivery man on running in advice, but that is your personal preference.........

Agreed on the comments about Candy White and how the car drives :)

I guess you could be right about the oil grade. I probably would never have got round to getting it changed anyway, was just wondering whether anybody else had had the same thoughts. Will just keep an eye on it the level instead I think!

I'm guessing the engine is pretty robust anyway, most diesels seem to be!

If it needed doing then there would be a scheduled service at 1000 or 1500 miles.

The first new car I had needed a very minor service around that point and I'm sure quite a few cars did up until about 10 years or so ago.
