Thanks for the offer, very kind..... did you get an uprated clutch before remap?

Heh no, i found that out well after the remap ... ended up needing a new flywheel too. With the benefit of hindsight I should have sorted that out first.

Breaks down like this:

Stock OEM clutch kit is about 150 to 200 quid.
Dual Mass Flywheel is about 400 quid
Labour is about 200 quid

You can replace the OEM friction disc with an allards helix item for £227

Overall i've ended up spending the fat end of a grand anyway.

Allards do a kit for £770 + vat. So you'd be looking at about £1100 for a FULL ugraded clutch. If you've any plans for engine mods, i think that's actually good value based on the OEM parts prices.

Hindsight is a marvellous tool :)

yup plan on mapping her near on straight away to hopefully just over 200 bhp, so a new clutch will be first port of call.

I got mine mapped at 4000 miles and have had no probs with the clutch or any other part of the engine for that matter. It has just covered 10,000 miles and never missed a beat.
Mine is the FR+ BTW. see my sig for pics.
Good luck in Iraq BTW, i just got back from Afghan 4 weeks ago, and having done Iraq 3 years ago, they both seem as unstable as each other. Keep your head down and make it back safe :)

DEAR

cupra - 6 disc changer
FR - single slot

Cupra- 17 split 5 spoke wheels
FR - Different style

Cupra- Slightly darker grey with littler square pattern
FR- lighter grey with more style square pattern

Cupra - body colour mirrors
FR- Silver

Cupra- Badge on boot
FR - Badge on wings

These points are quite right and

the FR mirrors are more curved (like on the alfa 156's/159) Cupra are more square.

As you know the Tdi cupra came out in 2004 , the FR Tdi came out later (don't know exactly maybe late 2004/early 2005?) (both the same -apart from cosmetically). Some of the other replies in this thread talk about the more limited edition of TDI FR+ which only came out towards the end of 2005 and had some of the features to make it look like the Cupra R (LCR) has like the same wheels -though all these derivatives Cupra/FR/FR+ are still the same spec/power : 150bhp.

Depends what you like the look of and perhaps either of the FR Tdi's may hold slighly higher value as they came out later than the cupra Tdi.

The FR+ was a marketing ploy by SEAT to sell of all the existing FR TDI's in order to make room for the new leon (MK2).
As mentioned, the FR+ is the same spec and engine as the FR but the bumpers, sills and wheels are taken from the LCR (the wheels are 17" replicas instead of 18"). The body kits were given away with the cars at the end of last year and the car was reduced in price considerably. I picked mine up brand new with the kit on and a 6cd auto changer for £13,700 and i have seen older FR's without the body kits selling on forecourts for more!

Hell that WAS a bargain mate - i think mine was about £12500 2nd hand! Must have just missed the great seat sale! Residual values still seem strong though - suspect that won't change for a year or so or until the newer Mk2 models start to hit the 2nd hand market.

This is simply during the tranisition phase between mk1 pre and post facelfit - i have an 03 plate cupra which as the tear drop mirrors described and the face lift front end, where as the non facelift had sqaure mirros. Also there are a few cars (i saw one only tis morning) which have facelift bumpers and sqaure mirros!

They are holding value very well, and i was shocked when the dealer offered me a brand new one for less than the one i test drove on an 05 plate with 7k on the clock :-o
Had to get it, and i was told i had the 3rd last one that was sold, and the very last black one. Not sure how true this is, but it i'm happy if its true :funk:

I have previously used ChippedUK in Bromsgrove to remap my vectra, I have arranged for other members to go down in March to get there vecs done too, that was what initially put my thinking towards a vec as he got around 50 bhp from the Vec 150 diesel, but tbh the car is too big now I only use it for travelling to and from work, so after a hatch, the Leon is a lovely motor but it would still have to be the sporty varient thats why I have decided on the FR or Cupra.

I've looked into this subject since I'm looking at buying a 150Bhp model and I think the situation is a bit more complex than whats been mentioned.

There are cars labelled the FR TDI (on dealer sites) that have the Cupra petrol alloys (17inch I think) and the horizontal grilles.

The FR I looked at in Silver has better looking alloys (IMO), a honeycomb grill at the front, and CAN have the 6 CD changer in the glove box (at least the one I was looking at had it!) The lights at the front look ever so slightly different too, but that may be the contrast due to the different grille compared to the older FR/Cupra version.

Pictures speak a thousand words:

http://listersgroup.co.uk/Used/Vehicle/34198 IS the FR in Silver that has the honeycombe grille

http://listersgroup.co.uk/Used/Vehicle/33290 Is the FR in Red that has the Cupra alloys and the straigh horizontal grille

http://listersgroup.co.uk/Used/Vehicle/37232 is the Cupra TDI in black, but it has the honeycomb grille and different alloys again !!! :wtf:

All the changes are cosmetic though it seems.....

correct me if im wrong;

The silver one is the std FR
The red one is the FR+ (cupra r bumpers/skirts and replica 17" rims)
Black one is the older Cupra

but as far as i know, they are all the same apart from the body/interior

Roll on the New Year, i've seen the one i want. Platinum grey FR+. Just hope they still have it!!!!

Ahhhh OK

I've not seen Listers advertise the '+' bit, it just says FR, hence the confusion.

Heck, I'd be happy with any of them to be honest. I must admit that I love the alloys on the standard FR the best though. They are gorgeous. :funk:

they are nice!

im not sure if the "+" is an official thing, as ive heard the log book still just says FR. I havent seen any dealers using the + either.

The FR+ is indeed recorded as being an FR. It was just a last ditch way of selling the remaining stock :)

i was initially determined to get the FR+, but the more subtle looks of the FR are now growing on me!

quick question though.

Around my way, there are tons of speed bumps of various shapes and sizes, and am just wondering how the FR+ front end copes with them. Anyone had problems?

In my LCR high speed bumps need to be taken slowly and even then can still catch. Lower speed bumps are fine. Some multi story car parks can cause the front end to scrape too if you go too fast.
The FR+ bumper is the same as the LCR, but the suspension may be slightly higher?

thanks for that fella! it might be higher, looks it! but that might just be down to the smaller alloys?

sure we will be put right soon enough!

iF The FR+ is registered as just an FR, what happens with regards to insurance claims if the bumpers are damaged?

I mean, lets say you have a regular FR, hit something and the bumpers are totally pulverised and therefore discarded before it even gets to the garage. Could you say you had FR+ bumpers and get the insurance to spring for em?:cartman:
