Has anyone else seen this?
I'd covered 8700 miles when my MFD showed a spanner and 700 miles when I turned the key in the ignition. My hand book said it meant needed my 1st service at 9400 miles. Hello? I thought it was supposed to be service every 10K miles?

Rang my dealer who said it should be every 10k and I sholud ignore it and bring it in at 10K. He would then reset the counter. Although he said I will get irritating warning once I've covered another 700 miles until service is due.

Could the Spanner warning be due to Spainish car needing servicing every 15K KM (9000 miles) - as suggest in Service manual?

Correct, its spanish so 15,000 KM is 9320 Miles.

Not the 10,000 miles you would have expected / advertised

IMO, Vag cars as proven to me also work in how they have been driven
i.e. drive it hard the ecu acknowledges this and says bring me in early for a service as i have been driven hard, had it on my prev GTI , service dept confirmed this poss same across the VAG group?

Only on variable service intervals - the seats are all fixed service gaps - so will come on at exactly the same mileage no matter if you have abused it or nanny'd it.
