i heard ppl call them heaters and coolers, but a cooler would make more sense considering its under the car bare to the elements when driving.

Unless your car is for track day use only or you have had the diesel return valve altered to raise the fuel pressure i don`t think you would need or notice any difference with a pre engine fuel cooler.
Now .. when I saw the size of the cooler under the car ... I thought wow... that is a whole bunch of heat to lose.. must spend 2-3 hp compressing the fuel that otherwise could go to the wheels. This is one of the failing of PD unit injectors (the other is the response time from idle so they like to stall). Found those out the first time I went tuning these ;-) Not sure it will drive me to Common Rail next time.. but certainly made me think..
