FYI in case it happens to you...

Had the AA out last week cos the fuel filler cap didn't open when I pressed the switch on the centre console. Turned out that the connections to the filler cap solenoid had come loose. You can access the fuel filler cap solenoid by removing the panel that gives access to the real lights on the driver's side inside the boot. Joggle the connection and it's working again. Common VAG fault apparently.

Cheers for the tip! That solenoid has always worried me. I have no problem with a manual system that is less likely to go wrong and would actually prefer one to the solenoid system. [By manual system I mean a hinged fuel filler flap and a locked petrol cap.]

Cheers Steve! Top man! You just saved my ass considerably! Got to the petrol station this morning and it wouldn't open! Luckily I work on a farm where we have Jerry cans full of petrol so I limped there! I got one of the blokes to top me up whilst I looked on here, 2 minute fix job done!

Thanks again Steve! :worship:

Damn! This has just happened to me and the "joggling the connecion" solution doesnt appear to work! Any ideas anyone?

Is it possible to just get a Locking Fuel Cap & do away with that door locking idea?

Would prefer a locking cap that fits the car key of course.

Much better idea#

Good tip! Never hear or see that happen. If the wiggling does not work have you checked the fuses?! Not sure if that is a valid comment but worth a look.

Mine wasn't actually that the wires had come loose, the whole box(unit) had managed to come loose from there mounting holes. The unit was just dangling in the space behind the trim panel. I just lined up the screws with the holes and slid it back into place.

Hope this might be of use??

does any one know about fuel caps on the leon mine will not click shut or lock cant hear the solenoid working any ideas anyone please

Access to it is behind the removeable trim panel in the boot which gives you access to the rear lights.

When I looked, the whole solenoid unit had come loose. Just put it back in place and you should be sorted.

I know this might be a bit late, but I found that taking the solenoid out, clipping some of the plastic clips open and spraying it with WP40 freed it up to make it work again.

(mine was stuck in the open position)
