hellow again friends,

Just a quick update and my gearbox fun and games.
Quick recap so far - they have had the car for 4 weeks now, i have had to find buy and deliver all the parts myself to the garage, they have constantly fobbed me off over the phone.

The car went in with a heavey vibration when accelorating, i was told it Would be the diff pin, it wasnt, new clutch, nope, new crown wheel and pinion bolt kit, guess again!

Saying that they havnt had a road test yet so we dont actually know!

They have put it back together wrong so the selector arm clashes somwhere. So gearbox is comming back out tomorow and start again.

Talking to a mate who works in VW he says it will be the flywheel and they are well know for it. So new one of them comming soon for ME to fit.

Odds on when i will get the car back anyone?

Na hes replaced around 90 1.8T golf ones in six months.

On the whole the SEATs are made better than the golfs so we get very little trouble compared to them, but as they are essentially the same car a few problems will spill over.

it'll be the same part number though....

90 in teh last 6 months? he'll have done nothing else - I don't know.... but I'd say he might be exagerating by some factor

there's not a whole lot that can go wrong with a big piece of iron

They are dual mass flywheels, which is a evolution of a big bit of iron.

He is a very good mechanic in a VW franchise so hes kept busy with alot of things.

I don't wish to sound obvious.... but this 'vibration' is it your wheel alignment

or wheel bearing, or a warped disc?

damn sight more likely to happen than a problem with a flywheel on someone elses car.

Its the mechanic at the garage who told me its dual mass and have had it confirmed by SEAT.

The vibration shook the whole car to a point where CD's where skiping in the boot.

Bearings have been checked and discs are quite new

I would advise against this garage but will not mention who they are for legal reasons untill i know my rights 100%

Plus i have this kinda luck with cars. i never get the usual stuff, just the expensive crap!

Do you have aftermarket wheels on your car?

If it was your flywheel, your car would be vibrating at static, when you rev the engine.

Ive put standard wheels back on recently cause i dont like big wheels and have had problems on other cars with non standard wheels.

The dual mass fly wheel has a sprung assembly on it to take up play when moving away so any stationary vibration would be taken up by this.

I just wondered if the centre spiggot wasn't there / locating right

not whether big wheels were the problem.

I am 90% sure that it's not dual mass, I'll check it later on the parts system though.

Ah ok, i have had big wheels cause drive shaft bearing collapse before thats all.

If you could find out for me on the Dual mass flywheel it would be great to know, if it isnt i can straight away know if the garage is trying to do me out of alot of money or weather its guna cost me alot in the near future.

I will appologise now to m0rk, i have just rang my local seat garage and my car should not have a dual mass flywheel.

I am sorry for my ignorance!

So the question must be asked, why do the garage say i have one?

Ive got AYP engine and i couldnt find anything relating to Dual mass for that engine code. Guna go to the garage so i can see for myself once and for all.
