Just when i thought it was safe to stop writing posts in Q+A!
last night my lcrs glove box wouldnt open tried locking/unlocking it a good few times then the handle snapped after a big tug!:headhurt:
it was the loop metal at the top that was causing it to not open but no i need to replace the lock. its not under warrenty so ill do it myself - anyone done this before or know what parts to order ? have searched this site but cant find anything.....
cheers in advance guys

Mine has also died in a similar way. Thank god for gaffer tape.

Halfords just said main dealer at me but they are all morons in Halfords (well most of them) so I would also be interested in an answer.

got some good plastic glue and glued the broken clasp that connects the lock to the glove box (unscrew 4 screws holding unit together inside glovebox) but i dont know how to attach the spring that forces the release mechanisim up to shut the glove box. anyone know how?

I got it open alright with a flat head screw driver near the steel loop and a bit of Brut force, I haven't had a chance to put the handle back together yet though.

Hi vinylrichy,

I got my glovebox and mechanism dismantled and put back together again, i have pictures of where the springs goes and how it fits, is there somewhere where i can email them to you?
Sorry for the delay, i was away in chicago on business, for the past week.

Cheers

Rob

Hi VinylRichy,

what have you got against springs, you could always get a job stress testing components if your day job doesn't work out :)

Haven't had my ashtray out, but i can have a quick look later.

Cheers

FYI,

I just removed my ashtray, its pretty simple, just open the ashtray, look inside it, at the top you can see a steel bracket with 1 philips screw, remove this and pull the whole unit towards you, also make sure to remove the connection for the cig lighter, the clip is on the underside of the connection.

After this where the spring goes is pretty self explanatory from the photo's
There are two springs, 1 on top and the other on the back
Check em out.

My glovebox catch not working

All,

I posted the picture of the spring below, you can see it pretty clearly on some of the pics.
Hope this helps.

Hi in regard to the above i have followed the pictures of where the spring needs to go. Its easy to get on to the end of the rod, But where do the two pointed parts of the spring go?

Currently i have attached the spring thing onto the end of the rod and slotted it into place. Following the pictures shown above.

But the two pointed ends of the spring just sit losely not connected to anything.

Thus when i attach the lock mechanism the catch will go down when i pull the handle BUT it doesnt return to its locking position when i release the handle.... I think that may have something to do with the fact that the two pointed parts of the springs arent attached to anything,(Its impossible to tell from the pictures where those two ends should go
