I have searched about this and found a couple of threads, however no solution. The washers look like they are catching on the bumper and therefore not returning back to the original position. I'd rather not butcher the bumper or take it to the dealers so will there be a fuse I could remove to stop them working altogether?

Thanks for any help.

No. 37 is the headlamp washer fuse. Legally you are meant to have working headlamp washers with OEM HIDs, tho you are unlikely to get pulled over or anything :)

I do know they are a legal requirement with the xenons but I dont think my cars every dirty enough to warrant them ;) Thanks alot for the reply, just what I was after.

Have you tried having a look at what the cause is from below? I don't know if you know how they work, but as far as I can gather, the high pressure pump runs only for a few seconds and in that time it pressurises these two washer assemblies and in doing so forces them out from their normal position, once they have been fully extended some holes must line up and the pressurised water sprays out of the nozzles, the pressure has now dropped and the washers collapse back down being returned by their springs. Now if these washer nozzles have been chocked by you using the wrong additives AND you live in a hard water area, then that might be your problem. I live in a soft water area but use Holts concentrated stuff a'la Costco in both cars without any problems. I have had a pump failure but that just shows up as "no spraying". If you pull the high pressure hose off one of them they should sit back down if the sprays are both chocked.

Hmm. I'll have a play with them before I take the fuse out then. I've only just got the car so haven't a clue what additives or if hard water has been used when filling up, fortunately I live in a soft water area aswell.

Thanks :)

I had a look at the problem with these ones and the lids get caught up with the actual jets, no real simple way of fixing myself. I just took the fuse out for the washers and this has solved the problem and im happy lol.

The last 3 cars ive owned have had xenon lights - well worth it, especially the Astra's which were bi-xenon and swivelled! Haven't tested the Ibizas yet though.

Cheers

:D I prefer the simple, most effective method! Too much hassle taking it the dealers and i've got other things to sort on the car such as a couple of annoying rattles, the gayest horn i've ever heard and the thousands of swirl marks all over the paint!

Yah, well as you've just bought it the dealer will carry the cost so no point in you chancing breaking something and being left to pay to fix it. Gay style horn? maybe the previous owner WAS gay and disconnected the Lo Tone!

I take it that you are an exBriskodian - ie exVRS owner, if so you may have "traded-up?" to an Ibiza that only get one horn and so you will need to invest in a relay and second (Lo Tone) horn and some wire - or rethink your sexuality?!? - well the Spartans were benders - were they not?

Yeah I used to be a member of Briskoda when I had a Fabia vRS. But after that I got an Astra VXR so I down-graded to an Ibiza FR to fund a motorbike :p Im starting to really like it though! Bar the gay horn. Do you really need to re-wire a new 'straight' one in?

In the past I've just added an extra "lo tone" horn and got off with it, but the best plan is to fit a relay and wire its coil to the first horn's supply and take a fused feed from the battery to the contact to supply the second horn - otherwise you might just burn out the horn contact and the wiring - not good!
